So im looking at a car that claims to have swapped an r34 engine into a r32. Is there a way to tell if this is the truth? In addition, would there be much of a point in doing this?

I would think the only way to tell is pull the casting number and call a dealer with it, i don't believe they changed the setup in any way from 94-98. As for the benefits, i also don't believe there are any, they both boast a 280 hp claim.

where is the casting number? So there would be no real reason to perform this swap?

R34 is better, newer, variable cam timing, potentially different drivetrain (Getrag transmission and different gear ratios)
