I have a bad piston in my SR. I bought a stock piston and it is slightly different than the one I am replacing. The stamping is different on them too. The biggest difference is the cutout for the oil squirters. I did a search and couldn't find any info. Any help would be appreciated. Can I use this piston with the other three that are in the engine without hurting anything? Is the difference just the year of manufacture? I am in the process of rebuilding. You can see the diffferences in the pictures. Thanks,

BoZ

54c's were the better pistons from blacktop SRs (all; s13, s14, s15). The oil squirters in the block were aimed better to take advantage of the newer piston design.

+1

Take a picture of the back of the piston and I'll point something out to you.

Notice the two small holes in the bottom piston. That allows the oil squirter to spray oil deeper into the piston, making cooling more efficient.

^do you know if (any of) the aftermarket pistons take advantage of the updated design?

Yes, Tomei makes pistons that are called "Cooling Channel Type" which feature the above design.

Yeah man. The old shop is gone. Actually "ter-tech" is no longer a shop per-say. My number has changed so email me at amacaluso@gmail .com

So is it going to hurt anything to put the blacktop piston witht the three redtop pistons? They should basically be the same besides the oil squirter cutout and the cooling channels, right? Please let em know something as I will be putting everything together this coming weekend. Thanks

Weigh the pistons, make sure they are similar.
