What up all, I'm new to the forums but along time car fanatic. I have a 07' Acura TL Type-S that I am considering trading in for an 07' M35/M45 Sport.

My questions are pretty basic, but I figured I'd come here to get the most info.

Is the power difference between the 35/45 really that much for daily driving?

IS the 45 worth the extra $$ over the 35?

All comments welcome! Thanks a million

Check out Infiniti's web site, http://www.infiniti.com/m/packages.html

I feel that the power difference between the M35 & M45 does not warrant the extra$$. I felt that I would rather spend the extra $$ on the bells & whistles and all wheel drive.

I'm still searching for some published acceleration tests of the M35. The M45 is (by most accounts) a 14.0@100mph car in the 1/4 mile. I would guess the M35 is in the 14.5-14.8 range at around 95mph. Both are quick cars by any reasonable person's measure. Do you want that extra 1/2 second and the hp and torque required to get there ? Is it worth the 1-2mpg penalty as well as having another 100lbs over the front wheels?I love the M35S but I'm over 40 now and not quite as HP-crazed as I used to be. If they were the same price I probably would have chosen the M45 in a heartbeat. But they're not and I couldn't see making the stretch in this increasingly gas-challenged world.

I wish they both had 6-speed autos - it would help the mpg another 1-2 on the highway....

SilverShadow- Thats what I have been pondering over. I think I would rather use the exta money on a clean set of wheels/tire, possible body kit from Element 114, and performance additives instead of using it for the bigger motor and the extra $$.

exbmwdude- I agree with you completely. I am 27, but I'm not into the whole "I'm faster than you" thing. I was when I was in high school, but I have grown up since then. As far as the transmission, I have read alot about the complaints of them on being a 5spd auto. Thats actually what I have in my TL-S, and I don't mind it. I didn't get the 6MT because I got sick having to deal with the clutch in traffic.

I would definitely drive one and see what you think. It is geared for power, not economy and it's turning about 3k rpms at 80mph. Since the car is quiet you don't notice except when you look at the tach, or the fuel gauge.

I would think the transmission should be pretty reliable behind the V6 since it can handle the V8 too. I just wish it had a taller 5th, or a 6th.

Oh well, if that's the worst thing I can say about it then there's not much to worry about...

I have an M35x and I chose it over the m45 because many reviews say that the given the extra weight of the 45 the extra horsepower doesn't produce that much extra performance. I can't speak to that but I do enjoy that I get about 5 miles more per gallon the what I hear the 45 guys saying. I have a 32 mile commute so I see benefit from the extra mileage. I drive up I-80 out of Salt Lake and gain about 4,000 of elevation on the way home. I have no problem with acceleration (insert smiley face here).

One thing i would say in favor of the 45. It sounds damn good

Over and out.
