Other than the engine mounts and intake manifold, what pieces are AWD- or RWD-specific? Different ECUs, flywheel?

intake mani, ecu, wiring harness, and location of the alternator and power steering. Other than that, I think they are all the same.

Actually the flywheel is the same,

the turbo manifold on the AWD has the turbo flange in the middle of the manifold while the RWD has the flange to the right(rear of RWD enigne).

What do 'your' pulsar GTi-R's look like?

The ones we have are homogolated (5000 made) for rally with SR20's and look like this...

That is a concern of mine as well, as it will be going into a '71 510 wagon. How much clearance is there? Do you know of any readily available OEM steering components that will clear?

You mean like from the front of the motor looking down the side, I'll have to take a pic tomorrow, and I already got rid of the stock turbo so the next pic(s) won't have the turbo in them. I think I'll probably let the manifold go for $15 + shipping, it's just taking up space here.

Just so that a business transaction doesn't go bad 510 and minute, both the RWD and the older FWD manifolds are identical in placement of the turbo. The older FWD CA18DET turbo manifold puts the exhaust dump on the side of the transmission or below the #4 side of the engine. The newer FWD/AWD CA18DET puts the exhaust dump on the opposite side (below the #2 side of the engine); closest to the A/C compressor. Just make sure you guys figure out where the T25 flange is on your manifolds (ex. between #2 and #3 or #3 and #4) and then go from there.

the GTIR only came with a SR20DET.there was a rally version of the bluebird with a CA18DET-R, factory half-cage etc but they are rare.

non-intercooled has one coil, small throttle body and manifold/plenum and no doubt some other differences

I do know that the newer will move your turbo about 3 inches forward towards the front of the car. Let me know if you want a pic.

I'm a little confused....so the AWD CA trubo manifold still has the turbine outlet facing the back ( flywheel end ) of the engine?and places it another 2-3" forward....I'm also interested for reasons of putting it in my 510

mine doesn't appear to move it forward at all since it's the older style but yeah the turbine outlet is facing the flywheel end of the engine. I think like Dee said, the later versions of the FWD/AWD have to move the turbo forward to be able to use the top mount intercooler, so you'll probably want to look for one of those.
