New to the G35's and reading as much as I can about them. In the market for a 03-04 Sedan, what exactly makes the newer models have that much more hp and less tq?

The 05 has a redesigned lower intake, making more HP. Do some searching, and you'll find answers

The 05+ 298 HP models have variable rear exhaust cam timing. They use different cams as well. As Joe said there are some changes to the intake as well. Essentially what they did is broadened the torque curve to retain the low end, and increase the top end. It sacrifices peak torque, but it recoups it and then some near the peak HP.
