So I noticed the top radiator hose as well as the top of the rad is quite hot to touch, but the lower hose is just luke warm..

This is after the top hose popped off while my daughter was driving it and well you know the mess that makes.

I reattached the hose and refilled the system, but I was checking it today and noticed the lower hose just seemed cold in comparison.

Planning on replacing the water pump, thermostat, and radiator over the next week, how could I check for blockage in the engine?

I've seen this question asked before, but a conclusive answer was never reached. I will try to remember to feel my hoses later. I know my cooling system functions properly since warm-up is quick and the temperature stabilizes at 176F, which is the thermostat opening temperature.

Ive got an autometer hose adaptor in the top rad hose that pretty much reads from the thermostat outlet

in my 1992 i saw readings of 180-185 when fully warm.

In my 99.5 i see readings of 190-200 when fully warm

Ive only had my 99.5 for about a year but 190 seems quite warm....ive already flushed the radiator without seeing any drop in temp so either it is normal or something else is acting up...

anyways...upper hose is always supposed to be hot because it is coolant leaving the block

Lower hose is supposed to be cooler as it is going back into the block

My temperature range after full warm up is 176 - 195. 190 is fine. You can rule out your radiator cap by inspecting it according to this TSB. If it fails, replace it with a new OEM one only.
