I know this may sound strange, but what are the advantages of either of these types of wheels?

advantagescast = cheaperforged = stronger, lighter

disadvantages:cast = weaker, heavier than forgedforged = expensive

note: if you eff up real bad and fly over a curb or smack into a deep pot hole with low profile tires or anything like that, regardless of forged/cast you're still going to have some messed up set of rims.

Thats funny because the forged FN01R's are the same weight, whether cast or forged...I can buy the strenght argument...

Pot holes suck.

Yea, but that's Y you shouldn't run 18s on a 240. The price difference kind of makes sense. But IF they're the same weight, and the price difference is that much, couldn't you afford to buy an extra pair, just in case? lol

Not sure I understand why you shouldn't run 18's on a 240? I think they look great, shoot, the signal & Yoshio 240's run 18's. They look hot. If cost is a concern, I can understand going with the 17's. Otherwise, I have 18's now, and can't really see myself putting smaller wheels on. Plus, the price differences are big for the "good" tires, but if your looking for something thats just streetable, that will last, not much difference.

If I was racing, that would be a different story. Probably would go with 17's because I would be going through tires at a much more rapid rate.

Dont you guys spin your tires a lot? I know even in my old cars I went through tires WAY too often to pay 18 inch prices. I'll stick with my 15's thank you, especially when I replace tires about every 8-10k miles. And yes, thats on tires that SHOULD last 50k :D

No, actually I don't, because spinning my tires means losing traction, and that usually means your going slower. However if I drifted regularly I would be losing traction often...hehe

With the chassis stiffness of the S13, it's best to go with 16s (may be 17s) due to rotational mass. The D1 cars, first of all, are track cars, and are not affected by trivial stuff like pot holes, or other imperfections of the road. Second, the D1 cars are very heavily modded and roll caged to where the chassis stiffness is ungodly on them. They're chassis are matched well with their wheel and tire selection. Besides, isn't the D1 pretty much about looks, too?

If everything else equal (same brand wheels & tires on the same car), will ALWAYS accelarate faster, brake quicker, and lose traction in a more controllable manner. The only reason to get big wheels is to fit bigger brakes, or just for show.

Weight rotational mass? We are talking a total of 1-2lb difference (w/ FNO1R's), and I was always under the impression that more rim = more road feel and better steering characteristics??

As far as acceleration, if the rim diameter and sidewall are equivalent to that of a smaller rim (16/17) with larger sidewalls, the overall differences is zero.

Just got my Z32 brakes....love'n it.

but where is majority of the weight located on a wheel? it's on the out side. . . where it affects it most.

I'm not saying that big wheels=all negative, but I don't think that the good out weighs the bad.

Bah, if you cant spin your tires at will your just not making enough power. I'm horrible about power sliding turns, doing burnouts, screwing around in empty parking lots etc. I just cant afford to replace expensive tires considering the rate at which I tear em' up.

Too lazy to read the replys, but Forged in leighmans terms is just a lotta metal compressed together to strengthen it.

yes 16's are a good size for xcross and drifting. Although 14's would be good for drifting too!
