no... as far as i know V-Spec is just a trim model and nothing more

V-tec is a variable valve system that involves a more agressive cam file that is switched over to when the oil pressure hit's a ceartin point...

two completely unrelated things

so in a vtec engine, the valves change? do they turn red, or just grow bigger?

no...actualy if u read for like 2 seconds...the cam changes

it slides over onto the more aggressive cam file (a secondary setting) when the V-Tec solenoid is activated (due to higher oil pressure at high RPM) the cam just slides over from what i understand

iirc, the valves in a honda motor do not evolve. get your facts straight.

Nissans NEO VVL and Hondas VTEC is the same thing.

As to how VTEC works, usually there are 2 cam lobes for 2 intake and exhaust valves on twin cam 16V engines, expept SR20 but im just generalizing. The cams on lets say a B16 has 3 lobes. 2 are normal lobes used for normal low rpm driving. The lobe in the middle has higher lift and more duration. Each lobe has its own rocker arm. When vtec is activated, oil pressure forces pins to lock the rocker arms together and the valves are forced to follow the middle lobe.
