iam finally getting an exhaust made by this local co, and i was wondering which muffler to go with.i know i want a cannister style one, but is there any big difference in brands, like one off ebay for $30 or a meganracing one for $100. do th cannisters make a difference in power? also my setup will be like this,... 2.5 in test pipe---2.5 piping straight as possible--straight thru muffler.

i suggest you get some reading done. a great book to start with is 4 stroke performance tuning by A. Graham Bell. you can pick it up and Barnes and Noble. I really you should read some before asking these kinda questions. every starts somewhere, i know i did too, but man, do some research before you just go and do anything to your car.

Just the muffler it self adds no real significant power. If you get those cheapo ebay ones Im not sure if it would sound nice... It will probably sound like crap.

As for my self, I went with Magnaflow and it has a sweet deep tone to it. I love it. Try their muffler. BTW, BRM uses magnaflow IIRC...

portisroad, you cant do that to our newbies, cause you are a newbie.

Besides we do not treat new people like that around here. I would tell the guy to use our "search" function, but it seems that nothing works around here anymore...

thanks for the negative response, maybe you should pick up a keyboarding book from office max, before you just "start typing", ok?

ok but as to this setup, does it sound like i would be heading in the right direction, as i also feel a 2.5 would fit this car best.

Sounds good to me... my car has a 2.5 inch exhaust and I just added a test pipe and I noticed nice hp gains.

I suspect that any muffler you add will just affect sound, not really performance.

Before I got my cat-back system I bought a muffler which was really cheap. It rusted really quick and had really thin walls which didn't lend itself to welding hangers to it. I say magnaflow.

Magnaflow is good...but if you do get anything else, stainless steel is the way to go no matter what you get.
