I currently have an s13 sr20det blacktop motor in my car and was wondering what needs to be changed if anything to swap in a redtop motor. Are there any discrepancies between the two wiring harnesses, is the swap direct plug and play? I know the 02 sensor is different.

Currently my blacktop sr20 needs to be rebuilt and in the mean time I want to swap in a redtop sr20 because thats all thats available locally.

If it's a non-type x harness, it should be a drop in.

ok glad to hear, so all the plugs will fit its just after I drop the redtop in I'll have to replace my current blacktop ecu with the redtop one?

It would be a good idea but not necessary. The 1994-1996 S13 blacktop and S13 redtop harness's and ECU's are interchangeable.

The 1997-1998 S13 blacktop harness/ECU is not interchangable without extra work.

oh ok thanks. I've read that the o2 sensor for the redtop and blacktop motors are different can this cause problems if I don't swap the o2 sensor or other such sensors?

i'd like to know this too...
From all the sources I've heard from apparently it doesn't matter if the sensors are different I can run redtop or blacktop ecu, however the blacktop ecu is recommended because the fuel maps are newer so the motor will run smoother.
