nothing but the color of the paint on the valve cover.

Blacktop is from the 180sx redtop is from the 'old school' silvia's.

that isnt true, the red top has a stronger head but a weaker turbo then the black top, so the black top makes more power and cost more. but if you wanted to tune its best to go with a redtop and just put a bigger turbo on it because the head is strong :bonghit

well who ever told you that is wrong, and i and everyone else would rather you not go around spreading false information. what do you have to back anything like that up?

the S13 red and blacktop motors have identical heads. (high port flow)

the s14 and s15 motors use a low port head design which is different, but not neccessarily and stronger or weaker.

and it doesnt necessarily have a 'weaker' turbo either, its a different turbo, and one is ball bearing also...

nice hubcapse.

"comes outta 97-98 180sx

and you are saying that isnt true also?? whats wrong with you,a nd were do you get your info?

i think you are under some misunderstanding of the question and basics in the first place.

A S13 redtop is one motor.A "Blacktop" is a S13 motor also, just a blacktop, out of newer 180sx's only...

S14 is just an S14 sr20det, not called a S14 blacktop

same with S15, its just an S15.

so basically your response it totally wrong, both, the redtop and blacktop both put out the same amount of power.....and have the same turbo, but different ecu

s14 and 15's have different turbos and ecu's and heads and intake manifolds

Actually the RPS13 Blacktop SR started in 1993 or 1994. Think late 93, the same year the S14 Silvia came out.

My 180 is a 94 and has a black top. Between the Red and Black tops from S13's there is only mild differences, I've been told that the porting is better on the black top and that there are some other issues that are different, but both are tuned for 205ps....

Thought so. The 9/93 would be the 94 sales year.

Let me try to get this straight:

The blacktop is newer then the redtop, but other than that, the only difference is the type of turbo.

The blacktop is generally more desirable though, because its newer.

Correct?

same engine, turbo, injectors, etc. S13 black top just newer that's all, i think you confuse between S13 black top and S14/S15

just the ECU is different, and minor differences like cadium or whatever plated bracketry, and some visual distinctions. All S13's have the same turbo, internals, etc.
