only the s14 transmission has that sensor on top of the bellhousing. S13 transmission doesn't have it.

pretty much the only difference is the place of the sensor that are different, everything else is the same, and will line up the same?

They are the same. Just a machined out spot on the transmission for a knock, or crank sensor on the bell housing for the S14 OBD2 one. That's it.I'm putting an '89 5-speed in my '95. So yes, it will fit.The clutches are different for some reason. But not really. I think it is the pressure plate that is different because the DE makes a bit more power. That's the only rumor I've heard. But yes, transmission is physically the same size, and will bolt up with either of the clutches.

Should be pretty muchthe same thing. I have a 93 auto in my sohc 90 s13. Works just fine. And my friend just manual swapped a 93 with a sohc transmission and it worked just fine.

i swapped in a 93 ka24de auto motor into my 89 ka24e manual transmission.

There is a little gap in the bottom but others have said it will cause no problems...its just because i dont have a shield or cover that suppose to be there

also when the swap was done i replaced the clutch with a new exedy for ka24e.

so far i got 6k on the new set-up and no problems. drive the car hard some days with no problems.

You have the space there because you dont have the metal transmission gasket.

i was wondering because my clutch is an upgraded one(i think). so when i get a DOHC all i need is the block and nothing else? is this correct?

Yes. I realize I am digging this thread up. I am clarifying a question other 240sx owners may run into.

this thread comes up as one of the first handful of results when searching

"ka24de transmission sensor"

sikS13 is correct.

the difference between the KAE and KADE engines are the number of sensors.

the ka24DE has 4 sensors (all of which appear the same, but have different pugs).

the KA24E has 3 sensors.

and when I say that one has X number of sensors, what I really mean is:

the KAE has 3 HOLES for sensors and the kaDE has 4 HOLES for sensors.

interestingly, the KAE transmission appears as though the hole for that sensor was filled in.

this is despite the fact that it is an older transmission, and the sensor is on the "front half" of the transmssion (forward of the bolts that hold the transmission internals)

I am not yet sure what this sensor controls.....

and by that:

I mean I am not yet sure whether or not it is emissions related, or whether the ECU will throw a CEL if it is not connected.

if IT DOES, I recommend just connecting the sensor, and taping it up, even though it serves no purpose beyond telling the ECU it is there.

EDIT:

I also wanted to add that there appears to be no difference between a KA24DE speed sensor and a KA24E speed sensor.

they have the same plug, same diameter, same gear teeth ratio, etc....

This is not to say that they may be different electronically, but physically the same.
