HI, just wanted to know what the differnece between the manual transmission vq3.5 (250hp) and the auto vq3.5 (240hp) is - the physical difference between the two straight from the factory - is it the ecu programming, the cams, or what???Why does one produce more torque and how can one interchange them at the Nissan dealership?????

Also, and I'm sure it's related...

Why can the Automagic tow 5000lbs, and the Manual only tow 3500lbs?

that just seems backward to me, and the torque difference isn't that much to lose a full 1500lbs of towing.

Holy ****e, thats a gigantic difference in output so it should yield a gigantic difference in performance for a manual pathy - now I still have no info on the difference between the two engines so I will attempt to get the answer from a seasoned tech at the dealership and i will post the findings shortly - looking forward to this along with an intake (KnN does a cone type for about $300) and cat back exhaust (custom either dual or two sided for around 1k or less at muffler shop) - this should yield a blissful sound along with the increased torq - oh my god, summer will be nice (with the wife complaining of course ) - again if any1 has info, let me know and I will post whatever i find out at the stealership

I keep seeing this question pop up and do not have the answer. But the thing that counts is getting your power up it sounds like. So if that is the case, then why not forget about the auto, which I would never take over a standard anyway, and do what you can to bring that up?A lightened flywheel from JWT and cams and intake/exhaust will get you way over 10hp and you can forget about Autos because you will be long gone. I would speculate that the auto tows less due to clutch slippage or something, but you can change that. Standard is king, and although I do not have one, my question is how to get Standard characteristics and not Auto.It aint the power difference that makes the towing I suspect.

Hi thanx for the responce, however please keep in mind that the auto can tow more than the manual as it produces more torq - If i can duplicate the ecu or maybe cams to that of an auto (265trq vs 250torq in the manual) i can get more torque (good for a heavy lady like mine) and thus WAY better take off than auto equipd biaatch - anyway, i need to now do me emissions (fkn sticker time) and at the same time i want to replace plugs and slap a K n N cone filter/bored throttle and once emissions satisfied make it even louder with a stainless twin exhaust from a local (thruway @ kipling and queen area) and i should be good for another 2yrs.

This thread has become difficult indeed but have no fear i WILL discover the answer and post this soon -

2 things going on here I think.

One is your possibly fixed on getting the Auto factory characteristics no matter what,

Or

You want 15lb torque more.

*I doubt the difference you quoted as towing ability is from the 15lbs. And are you sure that this is the amounts? I can be wrong on this! Just sounds funny.

If you do synthetics, plugs, k&N, you probably have your 15lbs.

If you want more you can do JWT cam that is really going to help, and catback.

But if you are only looking at the auto, then keep up the search. I am sure you can do it. The question to me is Why?

I agree. I have posted this same topic twice on this same page (if you wanna look thru) and one of the the guys mentions that there is a significant difference in the Nissan literature in the towing capacity of the two engines/trannies - altho i have yet to find an answer as to the difference between the two, i will go ahead and assume that it is both a recalibrated ecu plus different 'low end' cams whereas the manual focuses on the top end - again i am guessing and it seems i would simply HAVE to forgo the stock route and go with the aftermarket.

this would entail searching through all the (interchangeable wth the pathy 3.5) parts available for the various 3.5 equipped Nissan's

altho i have not given up on an answer, please help me through whats available and what actually works to increase torq on me truck (i will start at stillen)thanx

Automatic transmissions have something a manual does not have which is called a torque converter( Google this for more info. ("a torque converter is able to multiply torque when there is a substantial difference between input and output rotational speed") the manual 5 speed is 240 LBs/ @3200 rpm btw not 250.25 less than the auto version.

The intake manifolds are slightly different. Automatic ones have power valves, manual do not! info: http://npora.ipbhost.com//inde...18310
