Difference between 2wheel vs 4wheel drive fenders?

Is there much difference between those types? Because I see sometimes people asking if they can use 4x4 fenders on 2x4 trucks. Just got me wondering.

4wd fenders bow out farther than the 2wd fenders. I have 4wd fenders on my green 2wd truck.
