Difference b/t Timing GUIDE rattle VS. Tensioner rattle?

Hi all,
I search.
I just scored an amazing 1991 240sx LE in really good condition and always taken well care of. It was owned by a Grandpa who recently passed away and I was the quickest to buy. Anyway, I have the good ol' timing rattle around 1000-1100 RPM. Now, I KNOW there are topics on this, but I would like to know if there is a way to tell by the sound if it is the tensioner or the guides. I know that if the tensioner is going it's pretty urgent so I'd like to find out which it is soon without pulling the front cover off. Anyway, thanks for the help!
