is it possible to swap out the diff from a 90 Z32 n/a into my s14 and then swap my s14 diff into the Z so it can still drive. same goes for the front brakes. help is appreciated.

Yes you can use the differential, but you will need axles from a 94-95 J30 with the 5-bolt star pattern because your 240 axles and diff are 3x2. The axles from the z32 are about an inch too long for the 240. I dunno what to do as far as putting the 240 diff in the z32 because the axles will be too short and I don't know car to source from for longer 3x2 bolt axles.

Oh yeah to swap in the z32 diff you need to use the back cover off your 240 diff because the bolt pattern is different as far as bolting it onto the frame. And then swap the z32 cover onto the 240 diff to put it on the z32, respectively.

Hi 2 all….

I am looking to weld the rear diff on my newly purchased late 1993 s13 180sx (240sx) with SR20DET. (Non ABS)

There seems to be a lot if confusion about the S13 rear diffs, some being non VLSD and some having factory fitted VLSD.

I am pretty sure that my car has VLSD purely due to the way it drives and feels, plus I have lifted the rear wheels and YES they do turn together at the same time…

I have had a look underneath the car, and noticed that the output shafts had 5 bolts and not 6 which confused me even more as I was expecting it to have 6 bolts…..

I need to know….

1. Is the current diff in my car a factory diff…..??

2. If not then, which diff is it and which car is it from….??

3. Can I weld a VLSD diff and where do I make the welds….??

4. If i don’t weld my current VLSD, Can I use the internals from a S13 OPEN DIFF to weld and place them in the currant diff casing on my car, saving myself time from changing the whole diff casing as well as the shafts?

What ever info you have please keep me posted as I will be starting work on the car soon.

Thank you…………

If your wheels turn the same direction it's LSD, it might have a little orange sticker on it. It's 5 bolt so it sounds LSD to me. Confirm what it is, change the fluid, and leave it. Welding diffs is for cheapskate tards.

Weld an open diff only if you plan on never driving on the street, way dangerous.LSD is a good choice but if you want better, then spend big dolla for a 2-way.
