im in the middle of building a pumpkin with the CA 4.363 gears and teh HLSD

i know bio and float have done this already: did you reuse your old pinion bearings?

on mine they all look good, so id like to reuse them, the only problem is i cant figure out how to get the rear one off (the one right under the pinion itself)

i can see if i were to use a press and make some sort of thin bracket... but how did you guys do it? is there a cheater way to get it off (i can deal with wrecking the old pinion)

LOL, ditto. Still in a box. On the floor. In the garage. It' 1pm here right now, and a whopping 4*F right now. I'm not working on anything car related.

if i havnt found a solution by wednesday, i am going to find my way town to the motor t bays, they have a huge press there (along with some steel scrap i can use to weld on bracket extensions to the GTR seats )

i expect to have my engine in and running (not necessarily tuned, but running) and the HLSD 4.363 diff... and the aluminum driveshaft that i still need to order all installed by the end of the second week in march

Well update for me. My gear mesh is fine and the diff is ready to go. I ordered the new input shaft and output shaft seals today and should have them later this week. I'll have to order a new speed sensor gear to correct my speedo as well. I think I figured it reading stupid fast like 10mph @ 60. Maybe it was 12mph. I'll let you guys know what I think later this week.

Luckily I didn't have to mess with it. My bearings looked fine so I left them alone. From what I can tell in the FSM you're going to have to press it out.

thats the idea, i want to reuse them, but the inner one is stuck on the pinion shaft

how did you remove it (or did yours just slide off?)

im probably going to have to use a press, im trying to find a cheater way to do it

I'm confused. The inner one I never took off the shaft. I used a hammer and a nut and beat out the pinion assy. The outer (the one nearest the driveshaft) then came off. The inner one (the one nearest the pinion gear) stayed on. I just looked them over, they seemed fine, and so I put it all back together. I didn't try removing the inner one from the pinion shaft. I would think you'd have to use some sort of long armed gear puller or something.

yeah, i forgot you got it already put together, i got some steel stock and going to make longer arms for my gear puller (unless i get to take it to the big press first)

Where are you planning on getting a new speed sensor gear, float? Im curious because I also got a 4.36 rear end I will be adding to my SR setup.

Now, If Im correct doesn't the CA speed sensor gear have 22 teeth?(I may be wrong.) As opposed to the 20 tooth KA/SR sensor. I called Courtesy Nissan to see if they still stocked the 22 tooth speedometer pinion gear and was told by whoever I talked to that they didnt carry them anymore. I was hoping it was a mistake and if anyone else could confirm this I would appreciate it.

I figured I'd just have to correct the speedometer electronically in the long run. Oh well.

The HLSD + 4.36 is something I might do in the future so I'm curious to see how well it turns out for you guys. Keep up the good work!

i got antsy yesterday and cut off half of the pinion shaft, to make it short enough for my gear puller... then it turns out i didnt have it centered properly and one of the arms slipped onto the outer shell of the bearing and warped it

it would probably work fine if i just bend it back, as that part just holds the rollers in place, and the diff housing would reshape it..... but everything else that im putting in is in new, servicable condition ... i wouldnt want something little like this eating up the pinion or something..

so im just going to buy a new one now (after all that :\ )
