Why not consider a z32 n/a diff.

If you got the funds, then go w/ a Kaaz.

If you want something cheap, weld it. If you have the money, get a 2 way.

ok well i think i'm gonna weld it and just tough it out for the first little bit when the car is done and maybe upgrade to a 2 way when i get the money cuz most of my money is gonna be tied up in gettin it driveable at first

welded for the win. its not bad at all for daily, you can even take turns fast just know how to control it. and if you dont have blown rear suspension, its fine with the churping. my opinion, its the best investment for drifting.

Me too.I don't think they are too bad, My car is all daily/mild drift, so a welded is nothing too much for me. As for daily, i dont mind the chirpping, and never have to worry about tires cause they are always getting changed. The only 2 thinks I think are cons:Driving in the rain, fun as times, just be careful, very careful. If you get it welded, get it welded by a shop. While mine is welded by a friend, My other friend had his also, and it broke on him and busted in the middle of a mountain run. Luckily all was ok and he could pull over.Needless to say, they left the car up there, drove down to home, picked up a spare diff, and drove back up to replace it in the same night.Just be careful out there.

i love my j30, its taken autocross, track abuse and dailying for 2 years. Ive had zero problems with it, and never changed the oil. locks like it did when i shimmed and installed it. I like it so much I'm trying it in my 350 powered s13 track car, maybe that will tear it up, but so far so good in the daily

Welded diffs aren't even bad.Sharp slow turns suck but thats it.You will get used to it.

+1

I have a kaaz 2 way and its awesome. No tire wear on the daily part and insta lock when ever its needed at the track or street.

Ive driven all my friends s13's with welded diffs and they no different other then the tire chirping. Which i can make my diff do as well if i want too. Tire wear complaints are for tards. Its a drift car its going to chew through tires not matter what.

They are exact same to drive*, and if you have to be told to drive your own car a certain way, you don't belong in the drivers seat.

*as far as being cautious in bad weather and the like, and very similar on track

I love my vlsd. It is great. I've been tinkering with the idea of welding my spare open diff. Oh well. Maybe I use it on the track and use the vlsd for normal driving. I only got one Diff cover though. I have s13 and I got a s14 vlsd and swapped the cover. I'll need to find another s13 diff cover.

My open diff does that, If i turn sharp and give it a little gas i'm already 180 and fish tailing it to get it straight and it always happens when i turn right and when i turn left and do it, it stays straight and this is when the road is wet..I always wonder why they say to be careful when it rains now I know.

Please explain the process of reshimming the J30 diff. I don't mean in great detail, just the basics.

Search the internet there is a write up out there that shows pictures. Basically every diff is the same it just has different disks that ar4 different widths which make it a 1.5 way or a 2 way. Although it you go 2 way kaaz is the way to go.

while on the gas during sharp slow turns the wheels hop a little and I get the chirping/clunking but if I press the clutch in the car handles well during the turn. I cant tell if the diff I got is a 2way or 1.5 way.
the 2way engages both wheels during acceleration and also off of it. so would I expect both wheels to be locked at all times even with the clutch in? right?...
the 1.5 way would only lock one of the wheels 50% less than the other during deceleration, so during slow turns if you are not on the gas there will be no noise issues while turning. ???
thanks nico

Trade me for my open and weld it!

Anyone able to find a good post with pictures that shows you what you need to do to swap whatever from the J30 into my open diff?
