I'm going to the wreckers on friday afternoon to see if I can find a small oil pump from a ****ty little car, and a decent sized windscreen wiper motor to drive it.

The purpose of this is to see if I can rig a simple & affordable oil cooling circuit for my diff and another for my gearbox. No pressure will be required, just circulation.

If I rig this up with a couple of little fans hooked to the oil coolers, hopefully I should be able to do burnouts & trash the car all day long without worrying about parts of my drivetrain biting the dust from cooking the oil !

Your thoughts people ?

Bah I just realised this is the engine only forum, someone wanna move it to the engineering & tech section for me ? :D

Holy crap ! That's mean, but converted to NZD and accounting for freight & shipping, that's about 10x as much as I'm wanting to pay !

Have you though about a toyota MR2 power steering pump (electric). Cheap from breakers because they never go wrong and flowrate would prob be OK with unrestricted lines? Might be worth a shot. Using one on my car for p.s. but was also thinking of trying it for transmission cooling too.

What kind of pressure do the MR2 pumps put out? I know this isn't a truck forum but do you think it would be enough to turn 35x12.50's with stock frontier steering box?

Haven't tested the pressure or found it in a manual anywhere. On my 300ZX it feels OK and the stock pump on that is 80bar.

I have one of those pumps. Can you tell me anything about the wiring?

Many electrical connections, and I beleive some are for the variable rate depending on speed and angle of the steering wheel. I won't even pretend to try and connect up all of the variable controls, just want a basic idea of which wires/plugs to use to switch it on & off?

No clue mate, look for red and black !

Suss out which ones are for power, and you should be able to rig up a potentiometer to the others to vary the speed. Just remember all you need is circulation, not pressure... if you're doing what I'm talking about using it for.

The tqo big ones are power, others are brush wear and running feedback:
