There are no casting differences between the two heads. CA18DEs usually have emissions garbage attached to them whereas the CA18DETs does not. So the heads are basically the same.

Is there a difference between the JDM and USDM CA18DE heads?

Camshaft profiles are different.

I was thinking more along the lines of the casting of the head itself (without cams/other attached bits taken into consideration). Are you saying the castings are the same?

Castings are the same. There's no difference between the JDM and USDM CA heads. I'm talking about the head itself and not the camshafts or other related components; though I'm sure they're pretty much the same as well.

In that case, agreed castings are the same...

I think there's a few different tapped holes between the two.

I heard that canadian ca18de pulsars where jdm spec.. but who knows.

I can go measure the profile of the cams in my spare head later.

There is no difference in port sizes between the two... I am happy to measure the cross sectional area on both as a have both a de and det head in my possession...

The intake cam between de and det is the same profile spec..

The exhaust cam is different..

DE

Ex opens - 59 BBDCEx closes - 9 ATDCEx center lobe angle - 115deg

DET

Ex opens - 64 BBDCEx closes - 4 ATDCEx center lobe angle - 120deg

Most people put either exhaust cam on the inlet side, you need a set of adjustable cam gears to dial in the cam itself to make the best use of it...

There are a few threads in the tech section about tomei cams, have a read through them as there is some good info around.

Better entirely depends on your other modifications.

The cams will be a drop in replacement, to make the most of them you will need to dial them in.

No headwork is required..
