i was driving to work and as usual my speedometer jumps to 180 (i was doing 50) and after a couple of mins my hicas light comes on.. fearing trying to park with the steeringwheel so stiff, i do what i usually do.. put the car into neutral while it's rolling, turn the key and power off, then fire her back up and away i go with a reset speedometer..

problem is that i haven't done this since last summer, when i tried today, she didn't start up again. I had to get guys to help me push and pop the clutch and start her up that way, went for a drive around the block, parked, turned off, started up again no problem.

i was going over it in my head trying to see why it was sitting dead. On a side note: i found a speed sensor for sale in california (used) it's coming in the mail....

You have a gremlin,
1)find it
2)kill it
3)grill it
4)profit
LOL

Dude sounds like an intermittent electrical issue, maybe a wire rubbed through somewhere and shorts out from time to time, or you got a corroded wite somewhere that looses continuity as it heats up could be a ton of things. I had a similar problem in my WRX and it turned out that my main starter/engine ground was so badly corroded inside that under no load it showed .0000001 ohms but as soon as any voltage was put to it the resistance jumped to 40,000 ohms. After replacing it I cut it open and everything was green and nasty.

i've got a speed sensor (used) coming from CA so that'll give me a reason to slide under there and closely look at all the doo dads and wire thingies under there :D
