Hey all. I need some help. I got ticketed (in Cali) by CHP and had to get my car smogged at a state referee site. I smogged it this morning and it DIDN"T PASS. The only part it didn't pass was the IDLE part. Here are the specs:

At Idle (702 RPM):%CO2: 9.0%O2: 7.4HC (PPM): AVE: 17, MEAS: 101 (this is where i failed-max is 100)CO (%): AVE: 0.00, MEAS: 0.10 (max is 1.00)

At 2500 RPM (2496 average):%CO2: 14.5%O2: 0.1HC (PPM): AVE: 12, MEAS: 18 (max is 130)CO (%): AVE: 0.10, MEAS: 0.03 (max is 1.00)

Does anyone have any idea why I didn't pass?? I was told that at idle, there was too much oxygen. Any suggestions? Thanks for all the help.

If your cat is good, go to an auto store and buy that guaranteed to pass stuff. Put that in your tank and hit the freeway for about half an hour, and you should pass. I have used this stuff in all the Japanese Honda motors that I have swapped in my brothers and friends rides. I hope that this helps.

by those readings you are getting extra fuel into your engine some how, change the oil, pcv valve, and air filter, that should help just enough to get you to pass, the only other thing it could be would be a carbon canister purge valve sticking open letting vapors into the airstream

Check the CAT and be sure it has been replaced in the last 30K miles - if not - replace it and run to the inspection station - it will pass. If you don't fix the "rich barely" problem, it will eventually take out the cat, but since your other readings are good at road speed, this is simply an idle problem. Be sure your IACV is working - that's a typical problem at idle. Idle is not controlled by fuel flow, it is controlled by idle air adjustment - go figure.....good luck - you're close.
