Hey folks. I am trying to patiently wait for my new Versa to arrive (should be Monday at the latest). I think I am going to buy an extended warranty for the car but would like to know who people are going through and what rate they are paying for their coverage. Please post the company, cost, and coverage.Maybe this will help others who are looking for a warranty but don't want to pay a dealer big $$$$$$$$.Thanks,

I paid 1400 for a 6y 100k bumper-to-bumper warranty from Carefree Car Protection. Dealer claims to have discounted the cost of the warranty by about $260.

This could be a useful thread because with the Versa being a new model, it may have bugs. I know my TPMS is back on again and looks to be a constant problem in the future unless they get it fixed and send out a TSB!

Thanks Ben. Are ther any special provisions for certain parts? Some warranties (pretty much) continue the manufacturer warranty, others don't cover you "bumper to bumper". Deductibles? Thanks again for the info.

Sorry I forgot to mention the deductable is $100. Like most warranties the termsa re completely flexible. I bought the "Platinum" plan which supposedly covers everything. However, the fine print in any warranty tells you what actually IS covered. I haven't read the three pages of 6pt text enumerating every component that may or may not even be on my car. I'm sure only time will prove whether the warranty is any good or not. I'm actually hoping I wasted the $1400 and will come to the end of my 6 years with no mechanical problems whatsoever. Knock wood.

Nissan has their own extended warranty that some dealers sell. We bought one on our 06 Quest (purchased from a different dealer than the Versa). It cost a little more, but the terms were 100k, 6y, $50 ded. That one cost, I think, $1800.

One of the nice things about these extended warranties is they are refundable if you get out of the car before they expire. You can get a pro-rated refund.

I bought a 5yr/100k preferred gold warranty from a different dealer as a separate contract. he charged me $850. It works out cheaper if you buy just the warranty from a different dealer.

Bought a 4 year /100,000 mile warranty from warrantydirect.com. $100 deductible with towing, roadside assistance, hotel and car rental.Total cost was $859.This also included complete coverage of the emmisions system. Sensors etc.Total cost for something similar from the Nissan dealer was $1138.00 and to be honest I wasn't sure exactly what it covered.Be it major items or bumper to bumper. Warrantydirect gave me bumper to bumper, excluding brakes, clutch and normal wear and tear items.

I get my warranty through GEICO. They have it as an option on my car insurance it's called mechanical breakdown and it has a $250 deductible. It's a 100,000 mile warranty and it costs me about $40 every 6 months. I know the deductible is kind of steep, but I am paying a fraction of the cost of the dealership extended warranty.

No I did not buy extended warranty on my V.

I would not even consider extended warranty unless it wore a fuggin blue oval.

Some people on this blog find me too negative but here is my experience.Several years ago I purchased extended warranty the car was involved in a serious accident [not my fault] before the warranty even kicked-in.

Because of the accident the warranty when later needed was nullified.

My advice: instead set the money aside with your financial planner into something you can quickly access if needed.

Good luck.

I got the Nissan warranty from my dealer for 600 dollars.....6 years....100k miles bumper to bumper with roadside assistance....50 dollar deductible after the first 36,000 miles. The dealer told me that he thought Nissan had the best and least expensive extended warranty in their business. I have talked to several other people in my town who got the same deal and talked to other Nissan owners of other models who also got great deals on their deal as well. My girl friend bought a Pontiac Vibe and the dealer started out at 1400 bucks for the same type of coverage and when we declined it he said that "Today only he could do it for 1000 bucks" then he said he could drop it to 650 bucks if bought before the end of the month....which at that time was 3 days away. She declined and then went in a month later and got the coverage at the 650 dollar price. IMO an extended warranty at the mid 700 dollar or lower price is well worth the money spent. Having owned lots of new cars a lot of this does depend on the dealer you are dealing with and how long do you plan to keep the car....my warranty is transferable. There are good ones and bad ones.

No warranty here either. The V should be reliable. 3 year B to B warranty and then 5 years on power train. Most extended warrantys are just that - WARRANTYS. It protects against defects. After 3 to 5 years - and DEFECT will have been fixed.Maybe you should look into and extended service plan. But I would still save my money.

BTW: My Blue Ovals (past and present) are waaay better built than my V. Have had no issues with them either. I think Blue Oval has gotten their act together on quality. I would buy another in a minute.

This is the reason I despise car dealers and shopping for a new car...as well as most other people do. Only in the later years of buying cars has it gotten better for me....I am now just able to walk away and go to another dealer. I am glad I did not have to do that with this dealer though. The next Nissan dealer was in Nashville and I had heard some bad press on them and did not want to go there. Had I not goten my price on the Versa that I wanted here in my hometown I was going to start the car search all over again....and maybe ended up with something I might not have wanted. I am hoping that in the next 3 years there will be some really great 4 cylinder cars out that will overwhelm the Versa and many other 4 bangers on the market today.

Which Nashville dealer, Alpha? Cool Springs tried to stiff me on my trade so I ended up at Action - great dealership.

Sorry...hit the wrong key. It was the Cool Springs dealer. I am told the same guy owns the Mazda...Subaru...Lexus...and Nissan dealerships there.

No matter who you buy from, buy the NISSAN Service Plan! It will be honored by all dealers! I will gladly answer your questions even if you bought your warranty somewhere else.If anybody has a quote the want me to try and beat, let me know.

Thanks,

QFT.

We didn't get one with the Versa, but we sure did with the Titan (in sig).

The only warranty we would even consider listening about was the Nissan WRAP (Security+Plus Gold Preferred, I believe), which we ended up purchasing. We got the $0 deductible 7/100, which has hardly (if any) differences from the Nissan factory 3/36 warranty. Essentially, we got a 7/100 bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Yeah, the cool thing about Gold Preferred is you get additional component coverage. All the AV stuff and some high wear items like belts and hoses. My Murano has 130k and I shudder to think what it's going to cost when my Bose System quits on me.

Definitely a good investment!

I paid like an extra $2000 for a 7 year coverage with the dealership which included extras --> a sound protection shield, rust inhibitor, fabric spray, and paint spray. I don't remember the exact figures but I paid for extra everything so the car is covered for 7 years or 120,000 km. The other extras are good for 5 and 10 years (rust, fabric, paint, and sound). Overall, I'm happy with it.
