Does the rattling seem to be coming from the oil cap or number 1 spark plug wire? I noticed the same problem on my S14 today while I was changing the air filter.

It sounded like a repetitive *click click click* noise.

well, the clicking might be your fuel injectors. the timing chain is an actual rattle, as if something is hitting the valve cover. thats what i sounds like kinda. from the front of the motor.

i have 174K on my car and paid $270 for the whole timing chain kit and put it in. I don't care if it rattles a little once in a while. I had a small crack on my timing cover and i just put rtv on in for now. nick

Are you sure it's not valve noise?

574-240sx: I've got a front cover just sitting in my garage if you wanna make me an offer. I would let it go cheap!

a&a auto- i think you should just throw a turbo on it as long as it doesn't smoke you should be fine as long as you are not running high boost. whats the worst that could happen, blow your engine. $300 gets you a new engine. nick

If you are having a problem with low oil pressure then it is fairly likely that the mains are going. Of course this will make the valves tick a little and may cause the chain to rattle a little.

when i had my 95 with 125000 on it, it had the rattle, but it was the tensioner. and now i got my 96' and when i hit about 121000 on it the same rattle started. my dad told me that every ka24 hes ever worked on around or over 120000mi has had the problem, its just a nissan defect or something.
