If you did the head gasket and all of a sudden got coolant in the oil it is probably something you did. More than likely the front cover isn't sealed correctly or it is cracked.

Quite a few people have had problems with the chain rubbing all the way through the front cover on the SOHC motors.

That's an interesting one. So there was coolant puddling on top of the head, where the cams are? I don't see how a blown head gasket would cause that...maybe a cracked block if it's a vertical crack. Any signs of damage to the outside of the valve cover? Shops sometimes hit it with a rubber mallet to break the RTV seal, and I suppose that could cause a crack, but man, cracks through a head require a lot of energy to form. Check the plugs and cylinders for coolant. Then do a compression check on all cylinders and on the cooling system. If the cylinders' compression is good, then the car should still run, unless the crack is so bad that the cylinders are drowning. Check the spark to all plugs.

If your chain guide was broken when you replaced the chain, then more than likely your chain rubbed through the waterpump passage in the timing cover. Very common on the KA24E. If anyone has timing chain noise with a KA24E pull the cover ASAP and atleast replace the giudes!

I actually have the same problem. I don't know how you did your timing chain, but when I did mine I just pulled the front cover off and the oil pan. This is a lot easier, but when you put the cover back on with out removing the head you can pinch the front part of the head gasket and that can cause a leak. Now I have to do the head gasket! Hope this helps.

RTV will fix your problem. Unless you really want to do the head.
