You could install a powered hide-away antenna. Then you could go to a bodyshop and have the old antenna hole filled in.

Hide-away antennas can be had for under $50 easily (probably closer to $25).

Yeah, you can do something like that. It's not that outdated, you'll still see late 90's Benz / BMW / Jag's with them. Yeah, pretty much nobody has them now, but remember, the Y33 came out 10 years ago (model year 97 debuted in around September 96).

I'm enjoy XM and CDs and MDs, but its good to have a standard AM/FM radio for local storm/emergency information if you drive across the country. Many state DOTs broadcast vital information on their own frequencies posted on blue signs. At least keep a battery-powered portable in the glove box if you're going to yank your antenna.

Only time I've listened to the radio in my car is when I drive my mom to the doctor's office or something like that other than that it's cd's. But now I've found away around the radio, just play cd's we both can listen to.

That's because you guys don't have what's arguably the best radio station in the country, KCRW. Public radio = NO commercials, and every DJ plays what THEY want, not what some corporate Sony exec. tells then to play 50x a day. David Byrne of the Talking Heads did a sound byte for them and said "I'm driving through Palm Springs listening to KCRW (they broadcast out of Santa Monica, but are picked up all over Southern Cali) and I think to myself, "they have better radio in Palm Springs than in New York". Many of the movies you guys see have a KCRW DJ as the music director, it's one of the most influential stations out here.

That and KJAZ (also public, out of Long Beach State) are the only stations I like, I just can't deal with 30 minutes of commercials every hour and the same 20 songs all day long, over and over, ahhhhhh puke.

David Byrne is the man!

I remember being trapped in LA traffic for hours -- I think that out of my entire weekend vacation, 10 hours were spent idling on the damn highway. A station on every frequency, and not a single thing on.

You just didn't know about 89.9 KCRW at the time I guess. Hands down the best station I've ever heard. I have friends on the East coast that I've turned on to it, and they say they stream it all the time on their computers. KCRW presents shows in NYC and SF all the time, even though they don't broadcast there. Probably one of the best funded public channels in the country.

Noted! I'll definitely tune in the next time I'm in town. Since I lost all my pictures, I do intend on returning.

Being though you're a little more seasoned in the age rankings than I am, i'm pretty sure you listen to some different music than I do... You're on point by saying radio plays the same songs every 20 min. That is the most annoying thing. I used to love listening to the radio in NY as a kid since they would play underground music but that's hardly the case anymore =/ Thank God for an ipod!!!

I think you'd be suprised. I like current, underground, non-mainstream music. I grew up in MD, started going to night clubs in Baltimore when I was 16, that was '86, clubs like the infamous Cignal, Paradox, Gatsbys, later in D.C. it was the 9:30 (b4 the move, when that was the actual clubs address), the Vault, 5th Column, and when the rave scene began, I was all over that. I promoted parties at the Paradox in Balt. from like 91-93, and to this day Charles Feelgood is one of my good friends (17 years! damn time flies). I know (knew) the Music Now Records guys, and the 18th Street Lounge guys, in fact, I still have my membership card from 1996, when I moved out here.

I still love that same kind of music, all though I no longer go clubbing besides the rare occasion I make it out when Feelgood is in town. Also love stuff like Interpol, Doves, PJ Harvey, etc.

you know the Qs have an antenna built into the rear window and you can get pretty good reception with just that bad baby plugged in... Something to consider. Theres a TSB on checking just the various antenna, but i cant remember what it is off hand.. you press a series of buttons and you cna select just one antenna or another....
