Did the Nissan 240sx ever race in SSC / SSB?

All over the world, Nissan products are involved in road racing, track days, time attack and autocross.

Im wanting to know if the 240sx ever raced in Showroom Stock C or Showroom Stock B (SCCA Runoffs)

This is all i found on the SCCA website. It just explains about how the cars are classed.

SHOWROOM STOCK CATEGORY

Late-model, mass-produced street cars like those bought right off the showroom floor. Aside from a bolt-in roll cage and safety equipment, there are very few modifications allowed to the cars. If the car is older than 10 years, it can’t compete. Classed by performance potential into two classes: Showroom Stock B (SSB) and Showroom Stock C (SSC).

Each class has over 30 different cars eligible to compete within that class. SSB is made up of entries like the Acura RSX-S, BMW Z-4, Honda Civic, Mazda MX-5 and Pontiac Solstice. SSC is the slower, but no less exciting Showroom Stock class and includes cars such as the Chevy Cobalt , Honda Civic Si, and Mazda3.

Many of the drivers in Showroom Stock move up to compete in the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge® Championships.

I'm not even sure where you'd find the old results to see if they did...cars are only legal in showroom stock for a set amount of years, then you have to change classes, that's why you see so many in IT these days.

The SCCA site has results back to 2002 and there weren't any running at that point, so you'd have to figure out where to find results from even further back...if it helps if they ever ran they probably would've been in SSB

Why did you want to know?

Im trying to gather as much race history on the 240 as much as possible.

I surprisingly found some pretty cool results.

If you're talking 13-15 your best bet probably is IMSA GTU and JGTC, also check SCCA GT3.

Like I said not sure about showroom stock but they are used in IT a lot, but from a historical basis the first 3 there would be the main ones I'd look at. Stuff like IT and people using them these days for NASA PT/ST isn't really historical, it's just cool to see.

Im mostly interested in 240sx's raced in the states. I found an S14 in SCCA GT2, and a group of others here....

http://speedhunters.com/archiv....aspx

And one that raced in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. 8th row down

Yeah then check SCCA GT3, lot of em run there and still do with bonkers KA setups....IMSA it looks like you've already found. Not sure what engine the S14 had to be running GT2, I've only ever seen S-chassis in GT3, so I'd be interested in checking that out too.

There also were a few that ran world challenge way back, but again it'll be hard to find info on them.

Don't know if, or how many may have actually been raced, but I have GCRs going back to 2002, and in '02 they listed the S14('96 & '97 only - not sure why) in SSB. FWIW the '96 SE - which was listed on a separate line from the '96-'97 base models - was allowed to compete with the factory ABS & VLSD, and was listed as using both the 4.08 & 4.36 gear sets. I didn't know the 240 ever came stock with the 4.36s.

And just an FYI, cars are only allowed to compete in SS for 10 years from the date of the latest year on it's spec line.

Thanks for the input, but clue me in to what GCR's are...

The GCR is the General Competition Rules and Specifications, the SCCA's rulebook for wheel-to-wheel racing. It lists the rules for racing and general car prep, as well as the specific rules for each class in SCCA Club Racing (including showroom stock). You can find it online here http://www.scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=44 along with other info about the different classes.

In 1994, a 1993 Nissan 240SX driven by Rob Jones finished second in SSB at the SCCA national championship runoffs.

In 1995, a 1995 Nissan 240SX driven by Dave Daughtery won SSB at the SCCA national championship runoffs.

It will take some digging to find anything prior to 2002, but I was able to find some older results here: http://www.motorsport.com/news...CA*&Y

Looks like the 240SX was outclassed right from the start, an by 2000 you pretty much had to be in a Miata to have a chance.

They were popular in SCCA ITA class as well.

If you google bob speakman or team speakman and Nissan you will find a long NISSAN history on him (since the 70's)as well as the 240sx he campaigned professionally. (Not NASA or SCCA stuff) Grand -Am - Motorola etc...FWIW, He is also from MD.

I have attached a site that will give you a look at the SSB 1993 240SX as well as several Sentras that have competed in the SCCA in the past or present. The site is being updated for 2009, so it may appear a little sloppy for the next week.

Yeah I actually have a 2007 NISMO Calendar that has a picture of a couple S13's in that class I believe...
