I was digging through some old reviews/articles on the Q, and I think I remember them saying the A or T, or maybe it was just the A (cant remember) had a faster rack then the normal model. However I have never seen this noted before..

I don't think it's correct. Can anyone confirm?

I'm quite sure the active doesn't... unsure about the T though.

I didn't think so. maybe i read it wrong.

I remember it saying the teeth were handcut or whatever.. not even the Z32 had this. Could be wrong as well.

I think that's incorrect also... To my knowledge, all the Q racks are the same across the lineup, with the only difference being 90-93 and 94-96 (and even THAT is questionable).

Same racks across the line [90-93] then the 94 added approximately 1/2 turn lock steering wheel to lock to the 90's 2.6 turns.

from 1991 brochure: " To improve steering feel, the pinion gear is precision ground to a glossy smoothness and within tolerances of literally micro-millimeters".

1994 Q45t had the faster rack, something like 14.7:1 vs 17:1:1. don't have my factory brochure, but I posted the ratios about a month ago.

I'd assume the racks are interchangable between a 94 reg and 94t. Having a more responsive steering rack like that would be a nice alternative to the sluggish stock rack when it comes time for replacement.

Personally, on the highway at speed, I prefer the slower rack. If I were autocrossing or doing a lot of switchbacks, I am sure the quicker rack would be better.

I liked the quicker ratio in my 1991 Q. When I replaced the rack in my 1995 one time, I forgot to ask if they could put in the one from the 1990-93 series! They could have, it turns out! :(

I put a 90-93 rack in my 95 car. No problems and the steering is different, but it has been so long I really can't remember if there was that big of a difference. I need to drive a 95 car with an OEM rack again to compare the two.
