HEy guys,

I just did the 300zx TT upgrade on my S14, but when i was doing it I couldnt fit the rotor with the stock dust cover ( i think thats what its called ) ... So i thought why dont I cut it but then I just got to working and took them off altogether...

My question is ... is there any harm in not having that back plate thing.

What do the 300zx brake upgrade owners do ?

thanks !

BTW 4 PISTONS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO SWEEET ITS UNREAL !!!

I got the 300zx TT calipers , i rebuild them , got KVR carbon pads KVR drilled 30MM rotors , Russell stainless lines, Motul 5.1 fluid

I LOVE 4 piston, I cant believe I ever drove on those crapppy S14 stocks SHame on me

there is no side effect. the shield was there to just prevent road debri and excess dust. there are no side effects to the removal except for perfect clearance for larger rotors

You did a z brake on your s15?

and why would you do that? s15 already got 4 piston brake. for the shield questoin. cut it. and bend it.

Why exactly are they so sweet? Unless you have sticky tires or drive HARD for 15+ minutes, the stock brakes are fine with decent pads/fluid. Especially with the stock master cylinder, bigger brakes will only make you lock up the tires easier. The true benefit comes with track driving on really sticky tires.

I cut mine and bent it back a little. Works fine.

He's right.Nothing wrong with getting Z brakes, just admit to yourself youre doing it for the bling factor...

Although I cant speak for people who have the Z brakes without master cyl. I got my brakes with the Z32 master cyl. And for those of you who think there is no difference, only in the track. You seriously need to drive the two cars one with tiny winny brakes that stock 240s have and then drive the car with 4 piston brakes. And then if you still think there is no difference, well then I give up.

P.S. with my stock brakes, After my 1/4 runs, it took me about another 1/4 mile just to get the car down to about 5-10 to slow down. After the brake swap, hell of a lot different braking force. And I have yet to lock up my front tires, no matter how hard i drive or brake. By far the best upgrade our car can get.

But then again, maybe there is no difference if you dont swap the master cyl, but i still doubt that.

I have stock brakes on my S14 and Z32 brakes on my S13. The difference is night and day. I am running the 30mm and using the stock MC. The Z32 brakes just have much better bite.

As far as just being for track use, the best part of the upgrade is that they will withstand track use without fading. But it is also very nice around town. The brakes themselves do not give you more stopping power. If your leg is strong enough, you will be able to lock them down with the stock set, or the z32 set. I could lock them down before I changed them from stock to the Z's.

The dust shield: It is there to keep debris out, it can also help with keeping water off. Cold water and very hot brake rotors do not mix. I have had things get caught in my brake assemblies since removing the dust shield, kinda sucks, but its never done anymajor damage.

I had stock brakes with hawk pads, no lines but with the DOT4 or 5 Cant recall. But still the difference is night and day, you just cant even compare the two. I mean, it is possible that the BMC had a lot to do with it, I cant argue how it feels with the stock MC. I use to HATE the stock brakes on my 240, thats why that was the first upgrade I did. I always thought to my self, how can this car have such terrible brakes.

And as far as the bling factor, unless you have drilled rotors and rims that have small spokes, you cant even tell. As far as my car goes, I dont think people can even tell the difference that I have changed my brakes. Unless they know the car.

Unless your 240 is just from point A to point B, then i guess the brake swap is not worth it.

Thank you!

The people that say there is no difference, you probably do not have the brake upgarde, am I correct?

I dont have Z brakes, but I have no problem with my stock brakes. I hit the pedal, the car stops. What were you guys doing to your stock brakes that makes them so crappy?? Also, you may be comparing an 'original' brake setup to a much newer set (reman calipers, brand new or resurfaced rotors).

I'm speaking on a theoretical level, as I have no experience to rely on. If the tires stop your car and not brakes (thats a fact), I'm betting your confusing intial bite with 'stronger' brakes. As yellow_jacket said, Z brakes just take less force to achieve the same braking power as stock brakes.

With that said, I'm planning on getting 30mm Z brakes. The front Z setup with 30mm aluminum calipers only weighs 4 lbs more than stock. I guess I should hold my opnions til then...

Listen it all depends, on a one's needs. If you want a car just to stop, then the stock brakes will stop the car as well. But if you are looking for serious braking power then 4 pistons will do that for you!
