I just walked out to the garage to start my 2001 Q45, the engine fired, then I heard a "rattling" sound, then then engine died and will not start back up. Cranks fine, with a bit if a "whine" but doesn't fire. The car had 150,000 miles when I got it, I took it in as part of a Trade and I know nothing of its past maintenance.
Do you think it's dead in the water?

Had you recently started it/moved the car and shut the engine off within a minute or two of starting it?

My '98 will always start hard and crank with that whining sound when it's started/stopped when cold. I believe it gets flooded when started/stopped too quickly.

No, it was the first start up in a couple of days. Obviously the chain didn't break but something has happened, I will look at it this afternoon.
