Did I screw myself over by not changing the ATF fluid on my 09 g37x? I bought the car at around 90k and I am now starting to worry that I may have screwed myself over. My transmission shifts fine but sometimes is a little rough so I am hoping the transmission fluid change fixes the problem but I also worry that I may have put damage on my transmission. I have 108k miles and am calling Infiniti first thing in the morning. I am going to call Infiniti tomorrow and see if the fluid was ever changed. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

I generally don't let cars go over 60k without an ATF change, and depending on the vehicle that may even be a stretch. Whether or not your car has ever had the transmission fluid changed, have it done anyway. I always used to drop the pan, drop the valve body and if the TC has a drain plug, drain that too. I'm new to Nissan/Infiniti so I'd probably just keep it simple and get a flush with an appropriate machine such as what the dealer uses.

I've heard numerous times that a transmission with ATF that is in a real bad condition will have the fluid changed and then shortly after the transmission will fail. This may be true but here's why:
The ECU learns to apply clutches more slowly as the ATF ages. This prevents abrupt shifts. Upon flushing with brand new fluid, the ECU still applies the clutches slowly, except with the new fluid, the clutches work "better." This situation causes the clutches to wear out in short order.

Every time you change ATF, reset the ECU.
