I bought sealed power rings for my 93 convertible. its all said and done but now when holding the revs above 2000rpm it smokes blue i made sure the rings all faced different placed and honed the cylinders with a stone type honer. are the rings supposed to be beveled a certain way? please help i know this is vague but i dont know what else to include.

oh yea and the rings havent seated yet i guess because i havent driven it more than 2 miles but it has ran for 3+ hours added up. and one more thing when the plugs are pulled you can see oil down in the chambers all four of them and the plugs are black as asphault

Order a new valve cover gasket kit, that will fix that oil in the chambers. If the plugs are black, it usually means your running rich. With the rings, i know there is a certain way to put them on and how they face though I cant remember how it goes; its in the fsm I think.

Hope this helps

Short answer: Maybe.

Did you check the cylinder size AFTER you honed it? It sounds llike you may have gone oversize and need larger pistons and Rings.

Why did you replace the rings? Most likly you still have your original problem.

I would sugest you bite the bullet and pull the engine, strip down the block and take it to a machine shop. Ask them to Bore out the cylinders to the next larger size. They can then tell you what size of internal parts to get. Might as well have them check the crank and head while you ar at it.

Depending on your area you are looking at $1500 to $2000 for the machine work AND parts. You can do the labor yourself if you get a good book and follow instructions without fail. When you are done you will have a brand new engine that should last a lot of years and miles with regular maintance.

Of course I dont mind tearing down an engine to the block and rebuilding it. Some people would rather not do this type of work.

My 2 cents

thanks for the quick replies guys.

what puzzles me is that i bought a new gasket set from ebay which included sparkplug gasket the one thats in the middle of the valve cover and the valvecover gasket itseld idk i reall dont want to pull the motor and do it all over again i think thats what it will come down to but i dread the day i will have to haha the original problem was that #4 piston had low compression numbers compared to the rest and the chamber was soaked in coolant and oil. i didnt check the size after but when i bought the rings i specifically asked for standerd sized rings so i dont know im stumped i have a steady 15inches of vaccum so thats good but my timing is retarded a bit i will do a new compression test tomorrow. sorry for the bad punctuation but i just wanna get help not graded haha

Maybe you got crappy rings, i would always go OEM when it comes to stuff like that.

And your punctuation is horrible!!

ok so today i worked on it some more and decided to put some dye in the oil.after i did this i compression testeed the motor to mix in the dye this is wehat i got CYL#1 235psi CYL#2 226psi CYL#3 238psi CYL#4 245psi now remember the chambers are puddled with oil so thats why compression is so high. after that i removed the tester and replaced the plugs and let it run for 5 minutes then pulled the plugs and looked inside with a UV light. guess what i saw, puddles but they were not yellow as the dye turns it inder the light so i am stumped yet again on whet where how and when the damn oil is coming from, again sorry for the bad punctuation. i also replaced the PCV valve and cleaned the box that is attached to the valve.

Probably going to be valve guides/seals. You can take off your exhaust manifold and see if theres oil leaking down the stem, its real obvious especially if you have that much oil in your cylinders.

ya man thats what im guessing to. if its not your piston rings its gotta be the intake valve seals. lol sounds like you don't have them even installed if your pumpin that much oil down there. thats really the only entrance into the chamber besides the rings. theres a thread on how to replace valve seals. tell me how that goes if u decide to do it

i removed the exhaust manifold and took a look at the valves today. cyl 1,2,and3 were dry but all carboned up and the 4th one was all wet and sticky it was shiny in there i am at my wits with this car and to top it all off it started overheating so i shut it off and guess what i found? i found 3 leaks that took me half the day to fix it. im tired of it i bought it as a project car and i guess im getting my monies worth

On another note this car is pissing me off

the macine shop did all the headwork but i cant remember if they did or didnt, but from what ive read it said the if your valve seals are gone the car will smoke upon takeoff where vacuum is present and once vacuum is gone it stops smoking blue . i removed the hose that is connected to the pcv valve and pluged it,it seema to smoke less i also connected the hose that went from the valve cover to the intacke tube back together i (before) had a little breather filter atteched to the valve cover
