So I'm over at edmunds.com today doing an appraisal on convertibles, and a '92 vert was only appraised at $1276. Now, three years ago, when I bought my '92 vert, it was worth over $4000. Three years of depreciation shouldn't cause the value of the market to drop that drastically. Heck, the '94 was only worth $1700 by edmunds. Scary.

I got to the point where I don't have to care about value of my car anymore. It's become part of me, so I'm good. I used to check trade in and retail values, but stopped.

I did a lot of car value data taking for a recent project for one of my classes. Edmunds seems to be a rubric that ingnores what the true value of the car is. It looks to simple go by year, mileage and initial price and a few odd/end adjustments. I would go with kbb which seem to be more "on the money" so to speak with what peoples cars are worth. edmunds rated my integra to be on 1900$ last year when i sold it for 4k, Kbb claimed it to be worth 4500 if that gives you any idea.

Quick check on 93-94k miles"Fair$3,280"Fair" condition means that the vehicle has some mechanical or cosmetic defects and needs servicing but is still in reasonable running condition. This vehicle has a clean title history, the paint, body and/or interior need work performed by a professional. The tires may need to be replaced. There may be some repairable rust damage."

Like so many things in life it's worth whatever you can get for it. If someone wants it bad enough they'll pay. I still have people offer to buy my vert at stoplights.

I still find myself looking back at it after I've parked and am walking toward my office. It's just too pretty. Is that weird?

As a former car salesman I dealt very often with trade in values (and more often percieved values). To really get a good idea, we would pull three values.. KBB, Edmunds, and NADAguides.com.

Inevitably two of the three would be close and one would be way off.. We usually put more stock in the two that were close together. It varied as to which of the guides was off...

I do know that most of these guides do use recent auction sales values as one of their criteria for valuation. This time of year is terrible for dealerships to buy and sell 'verts. So the auction values on 'verts right now are very poor.

Anyhow... I would say that most of our cars have seperated themselves from the typical standards of valuation. We have really established our own market. The 240 is a high demand vehicle and the 'vert is the rarest version of it.. So the market is really based on what people are willing to pay.

Edmunds is, for the most part, a joke.

It's an ad farm disguised as a legitimate source of information.
