People have said valves (might be a worn spring or some such), timing chain, and even cat (im fairly sure its not the cat). Most likley the rattleing sound is from a loose heat sheild right in front of the cat.
There does seem to be a clicking sound from the front of the engine, but a mechanic friend of mine said it would be much more noticeable if there were an issue.
I might be able to help clear some of this up.
The rattling most definitely is the heat shield, I actually have pictures of the part you need to remove (I took it off my other S14), so email me and I'll send that to you. There are a couple of similar things down there.
As for the clicking, that (according to my mechanic who sees a LOT of KA's) is just the injectors, and it's perfectly normal. My other S14 did it too, and that car never acted up in 2 years.
In regards to the engine being louder than your Accord, I'm not at all surprised. KA24's are somewhat loud, "rough" engines, they don't rev particularly smoothly compared to, for instance, a silky Honda V6. They also have a very throaty tone for a 4-cylinder, even through the stock intake hardware. I'm not necessarily saying that the engine in that car is perfect, as I obviously haven't torn into it myself to know for certain, but I will say that I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary in regards to the idle or power delivery (save the sticky throttle cable). It seemed just like the 90k mile engine in my 1998 in all respects. I'd be more worried about the hard-shifting transmission, if it were me, but you're swapping anyway so you likely don't care.
I'd do a tune-up, some injector cleaner, etc... With that kind of mileage, I'd be hesitant to seafoam it. I'm not seafoaming my 130k mile S13 for fear of opening up leaks.
