My 2008 M35x needed to have the center muffler assembly, and both rear muffler assemblies replaced.

I dropped it off for a quote but also needed to get my inspection sticker done as well, which could be done u til the exhaust was fixed I was told.

Anyways I just wanted to get it done with so I said go ahead and they ended up charging me as follows:

- Rear left and right Bosal Muffler Assemblies ($345 each)

- Center Bosal Muffler Assembly ($489)

Total= $1179

The stickers were still on the pipe assemblies when I got home, they were from Autoparts International, which doesn't list prices.

I then did a quick search and AutoZone had the same Bosal parts for:

- Rear left and right assemblies ($108 each)

- Center assembly ($150)

-Total $366

They charged $100 for the install.

Now I understand that every place has to have a markup, but if these are the exact same parts, a 300% markup seems almost fraudulent, especially after telling me it pretty much had to happen because it wouldn't pass inspection if I didn't fix it.

I know I've got no one to blame but myself for not waiting and stopping the repair, was just wondering if I was correct in my belief I got screwed.

Welcome to the forum.

Yeah, you were absolutely owned. They are right that you probably wouldn't pass inspection (depending on state though) but the prices they charged you are absolute robbery.

See if they will price match retroactively or risk losing a customer for life.

I have a lift and tools at home and honestly, that type of exhaust work is 2hrs tops. So their labor seems accurate. At least they were honest there lol.

Yea I'm gonna try and approach it calmly and politely. I do most of my own work myself as well but just wanted to get it done and over with considering it wouldn't pass inspection and I need my car for work.

Hopefully they work with me, I expect a 10-20% markup not a 320% one.

Worst case scenario it's a good lesson.
