Hey.. Guys. I am in bad mood now.. I just bought my first ever 240sx from a dealer.

spec:

95 SE model.137000 miles5 speed.leather. all powersun roof.. rear spoiler.. alloy wheel. very clean balck inter. normal body.. i meant the some minor dent. but the paint looks glossy tho.

I got it for 4000.

the thing is my girl is not happy about it. she never wants a stick shift whatsoever. she is unhappy now.. :(

i tested drive the car. I am not a pro. but i think it's alright.. no weird sound. but it's a bit loud.

so.. did i get a good deal? or ive been fooled?!

thanks

Thats alright if its in good condition. 4 is on the higher side but still within limits if its in good condition.

Sounds like a decent deal to me, at least the way prices are now. I bought my 1993 240SX for about $3000 two years ago with a little under 100K on the odometer.

A well cared for KA24DE engine will run for a loooong, loooooooong time. Just watch out for any tapping sound near the front of the valve cover (timing chain).

It *is* a loud engine, so if you're not hearing anything odd, I wouldn't worry about it.

As for the manual transmission thing...a real man doesn't do burnouts with his front tires or let the car shift for him. :D

Tell her it'll get better gas mileage than an automatic (unless you wind it out to 6000 RPM before you shift...wait, don't say that last part). ;)

So did you buy this for yourself? or for your gf?

If for yourself: tell her that it's your car, and she should quit whining.

If it's for her: tell her that knowing how to drive a standard is a good skill, and that she'll get used to it... and that guys think standard-driving chicks are hot. And tell her to be grateful that you're even buying her a car... also, why would you buy her a car without her even seeing it first?

that's a very good deal... whoever said that's on the high side is crazy. I still see '95s go for $5k here in SoCal.

well. the car is for myself. we live together. we've talked about this b4. just couldn't work out. she thinks driving stick shift is more dangerous than auto. and she think she isn't a good drive and will be sruggling driving stick. because she wrecked the front end of my dad's car once :( well.. anyway. i tried my best to explain what 's good about stick. she's still unhappy.

We went to the dealer togehter ...

one more thing. i didn't know if my car has ABS ... how to check it please?

Here, check this thread out as far as the ABS goes. My car doesn't have ABS and I drive in all kinds of weather with no problems. You just have to drive sensibly according to the road conditions.

Also, as someone who learned to drive automatic before manual transmission, I actually find manual much safer. I have more control over what the car is doing and I actually find myself more involved in the process of driving, ie. no zoning out.

I find myself much more aware of what my car and the others around me are doing. Also, it's nice to be able to stay in a nice low gear if I'm driving in snow.

I'm sure your girlfriend will learn how to drive manual transmission with no problem. It's not some arcane art, it's a skill that can be learned with a little practice. Besides, it's a lot of fun!

My fiance has said she'll learn to drive a manual transmission only *if* I buy a Porsche (been wanting to get a 944 for some time now). :)

Stuff breaks and then you have to figure out how to fix it or pay exorbitant repair bill...that's how you improve your skills! ;)

Actually, just read the forums, search the old posts, ask questions, etc. We have the Nissan Online Mechanic forum and Nistech is *the man* when it comes to diagnosing problems with our cars.

yeah but dont ask him anything about how to swap parts or install aftermarket stuff on your engine.

You will not get a reply then. But hes great for everything else.

Better deal than what I got. Couldn't find ANY 95' 240SX SEs in the MIDWEST for sale. So I had to fly out to NYC to get a car with low miles and relatively good mechanical shape, but have so much body damage and a bit of body rust that will cost a thousand or two to fix. Oh, I bought it for 4500+150 for plane ticket+100 for hotel

You definitely got a good deal. Dealers around here are charging $3000 for an '89, and an S14 is not to be found for under $8000.

that makes me feel alot better. eventho the car is stock. i think some of the parts are older enough. i see the exhaust is already full of rust. and engine is making noice. but i dont think it's wierd since it's already 137K. I want to get a new exhaust. do u think i could get a stock one from a junk yard for a good price? and how much will it cost me? is there anything else I have to check. I haven't take the car to a machanic yet. any suggestion?

and the carfax to this car shows no problem.. no accident no whatever damage. well.. i do think there is possiblity that the pre owner had hit the car or something..how can i tell if the car was in an accident or been hit ..

no junkyard exhausts. Go to a muffler shop and have them weld you up one.

Exactly what kind of noise is your engine making?

Also, what makes you think the car was in an accident?

As for your exhaust, a non-stainless exhaust (such as the OE one) will start to rust surprisingly quickly somewhere like the NE, where there's lots of snow, road salt, etc. As long as it's not rusted through, you shouldn't have a problem for now.

If you want a used stock one, you can probably find one on our Classified section here at NICO. I'll be selling my exhaust (not OE, but OE style) soon since I'm getting a BRM exhaust.

my friend got a 95 celica auto. it's about 110k on his car. I thought his car was loud already .. but mine is even louder. Nah.. I dont think the car was in an accident. but the hood has a greater gap on the right side then it is on the left side. that concerns me . and my friend tolk me a 10 year car has this good condition on the body. he think my car had been repainted.. im confused now

Out of the 2 hoods i have owned for my 240, both were slightly warped, dont worry about it :D . 4K is pretty good for philly, I've seen late model S14s go for $8-11K in the philly area, and earlier model S14s for 3500-6500.

The hood thing is so common across a lot of cars I have seen. It will probably line up better if you unbolt it and adjust it a little.

I learned to drive on automatics, and now that I have driven some manual trannies I wouldnt want an auto
