I was driving yesterday afternoon and it was hot as hell out side, probably 90-100f. I spot this Camaro so I roll up on him, he jumps on it so I downshift to 2nd expecting to show him some taillights in a second or two and my car spools but feels slow. NOT super SLOW but not as fast as normal. I only held the dude! Anyway, next turn I switch the controller to 10psi and take care of it. But what's up with that? At 10psi it seemed to be about as fast as 7psi normally is. When I got out I felt my intercooler and it was warm, but not hot. Any other time I’ve touched it it was cool. It hasn't happened since, but it hasnt been hot since.

this is typical when temperatures rise. Just remember that everyone suffers from it so its not that big of a deal.

Go drive a turbo subaru and you'll really see what heat soak is like!

welcome to my world...i live in vegas...its ALWAYS like that in the summer...cept we hit like 115-120 deg temps on a normal basis

N/A cars suffer REALLY bad when this happens

its cause the air density is thicker and heavier so its harder for the engine to move it around...the same thing happens with sound...when its hot sound has a harder time moving therefore things seem quieter (this is why yer exhaust is louder at night time) its a general rule of physics

I know.. When mine was NA it was slower in the heat too. It gets pretty hot out here aswell. But I just didnt expect it. I've got a huge hybrid intercooler, I guess everything has a point where it's past it's effiecncy. I'm gonna get waterspray to combat it.

its not a good idea to push ur car in the heat...remember yer engine bay temp is always ALOT hotter than it is outside...just wait till it cools off at night to go domestic hunting =)

Wouldnt water spray be a better choice, only water to fill...

Isn't air denser when it's colder? Wouldn't we all be running run interheaters if hot air was denser?

yea, the air is thinner and not as much air gets in the cylinder per stroke so u get less power. at least one of us is paying attn

Hot air is thinner than cool air... because the molecules are more excited and moving at a higher rate of speed.

Sound travels best through denser objects thus, colder the air the more sound travels.

I've just never seen my SR slow down that much.. Made me sad. I couldnt pull on like a 92 Camaro Z28, it was pretty sad. I think i'll be getting the water spray.

Welcome to California summer and oxygenated gas. You'll find me in the slow lane, with the AC on blast dreaming of days in october with more boost friendly ambient temps.

just be glad that u dont live in vegas where temps on the streets range from 160-190 deg in the summer...if u come here during the summer and drive around during the day ull see alot of cars that are pulled over cause they cant take the heat

what the hell? where are you learning physics? please dont make comments like this unless you have some sense. we'll have a bunch of retards running around thinking that they should put a heater in their intake because they read on a forum that its "thicker than cool air."

hey ender...dont be a jerk...i was trying to make a point that does apply to why yer car has a harder time pulling during the day...got it reversed...simple mistake

He already admitted his own mistake, he doesn't need you to tell him that.

And as for not pulling on a Z28, I was under the impression that the 350ci Camaros were pretty damn quick stock? Or was that the SS....

It's quick, but if I can't pull on a 92 z28 on stock boost that's pretty sad. A stock 92 z28 should run around mid/high 15s. I can run high 14s on stock boost here.

Anybody have a write up on the water sprayer????

Would you put it for the intercooler or the radiator???

I would think it is for the intercooler, to cool the incoming air.

You can just use your windsheild sprayer if you want, use the hoses you have and rout them to the intercooler. Of course you'll have to give up being able to clean your windshield while your driving.

Do you know how an intercooler works? It's not to cool the incoming air...it's to cool the intercooler, thus making it operate more efficiently.

Water injection or alcohol injection kits spray a mist directly into the charged air stream though (after the intercooler).

To get an idea of how well an i/c sprayer works, go take a drive on the highway w/ a glass of water. Stick your hand out the window for like 10sec. Note your hand's temp. Now, dip your hand in the water and do the same thing. You'll notice how much colder your hand will get. That's exactly what's happening to the fins on your i/c when they're wet.

They work well...had a friend running it on his WRX; it consistently dropped his 1/4 mile by a few 10ths.

Those are too expencive to operate.. They can use co2 though right? Maybe I can get it filled at a paintball shop or somthing and it won't be as much?>
