Hi:
I have the 2001 QX4, there is a problem on the factory car remote, every time I replace the battery on the remote only can last for a week.
I saw a listing on ebay, universal learning car remote.. I want to buy it to replace the factory one. Did anyone try it before?

please give me some ideas.

I got the bettery from different stores, CVS. Walmat. and autozone,
I believed it's the remote's problem. shorted circuit or something.. so that battery went out so fast

just do a quick google search for some new OEM key fobs and you should find a bunch of sites that sell them for relatively cheap. i bought two brand new remotes from www.programyourfob.com for about $75 shipped. programming them is extremely easy as well.

www.eKeylessRemotes.com I paid $40 for one. Easy to program. It contains instructions on programming it with the remote. Nearly verbatim from the FSM.

Be careful. At least for the '01 PF, there are two different remotes with the same FCC number. Mine is the harder to find
"Model/ A" I'm not sure of the other model, maybe "Model/A1" or "Model/1A"

I have two remotes, one like you say works for about a week or two before the battery craps out. The other goes forever on a battery. So much be some kind of short. I've tried to find the problem but don't have that next level of skill to figure out what really wrong with it...if the time comes and I need another one I'd just replace it...Chuck is correct there are for the 2001 models a couple versions I have the Model/A

I have two perfectly working Model/A remotes. I can take pictures of the internals for you to compare if you wish. I'm also wondering what all the random testpoints do. Perhaps I'll try grounding them in the vicinity of the PF and see what happens. Maybe one of them unprograms the remote, that'd be pretty irritating.

It specifies on the back of the remote.

The two models are the same shape. Mine says "Model/ A" on the back. The other has a different "Model" on the back.
They have the same FCC number. Presumably they have the same RF components, but send different digital stuff.

I Googled the info on the packaging of the remote in the original post:

+"Universal Learning Remote" +"C193"

and go only four hits, none relevant. I think it might be a scam.

And it talks about supporting fixed codes, not rolling codes like our remotes.
