Read the manual. The mechanical key is in your intelligent key.

Your intelligent key has a little push button on the back of it, and one end of the remote control slides out, and is your manual key.

The idea is you lock your glove box, and lock your back seat access with the manual key, then give your intelligent key to the valet.... and your goods are safely locked away. You can also use your manual key to lock/unlock and auto raise/lower windows as desired, if so equipped.

Also, if the battery runs out on the intelligent fob, you can use the key to get into the car, put your fob in the little dash 'garage' and drive it until you get the battery replaced.

Enjoy!

What is this "dash garage" of which you speak?

There is a port on the low left side of the steering column where you can put the intelligent key. The manual says if the battery is very low. Not sure about dead. If I see a design flaw, it's that the back up key can't start the car...I'm sure I will have to have mine towed at some point over that key...that will be the day I sell.

Doesn't the intelligent key slot also charge the key?

no, you'll have to get a new battery.

When I bought my Coupe, the dealer set the bluetooth with my phone, taught me how to start the car, put it in acc mode and on mode, showed me the manual key in the ikey, told me what to do if the battery in the ikey died...aka put it in the 'ikey slot', showed me how to open the trunk where that secret button is... basically he gave me a tutorial on the car and it's fancy gadgets. Plus there was a Nissan Tutorial DVD in the glove box...did ne one else get that DVD??

I got the DVD.

So the key slot is only in case of an emergency if the battery in the FOB itself dies? It serves no other purpose besides that?

I was wondering the same thing, I asked a couple times but nobody seems to know, not even the dealer. I know the original problem was with the sedan way before the coupe came out but I don't know if the shipped the coupes with the new keys or the old ones.

My dealer told me that the FOB is the exact same as the one on the sedan and to absolutely keep the cell away from it. I have forgotten for a couple minutes a few times and it worked out ok but I think if you left it there all day, it would be a problem. On another board I heard they were going to send out replacements but I think that Nissan is pretty much expecting people to turn them in as a warranty issue. That way if people make it through the warranty, then they don't have to front the money for new ones.

I don't think the intelligent key slot works if the fob is completely dead. The manual says nearly dead or something similar (does anyone read the manual or just those of us WAITING on cars...)

I'm going to know more about this car than any other I've owned with this long of a wait...except maybe my Corvette, I think I know where they put every bolt in that thing (because I had to fix them ALL!!!!).
