I took our 20009 Rogue SL AWD in to our dealer for it's first oil change, and boy.....
FIRST: We had bought a maintenance plan which was supposed to cover EVERY oil change (3750 miles), and a tire rotation every other oil change.
The maintenance booklet we just received has coverage different than this, so the "discussions" are beginning..... I may have to invoke the "cancellation clause".
SECOND: The dealer performed our first oil change, and offered to hold off on the billing until we resolved the maintenance plan issue. Generous of them, I did appreciate their offer.
THEN THE OTHER SHOE HIT THE FLOOR........
35 miles later we pulled off of the highway, and after a few blocks of city driving realized the burning oil smell was us, and not the old van in front of us. Upon popping the hood I realized the mechanic at the Nissan Dealership had not put the oil fill cap back on, it was sitting on top of the engine block still. Oil had been spraying out of the top of the engine, making one heck of a mess for the last 35 miles.
The hood liner is saturated in oil, the entire right side of the engine is covered, oil was dripping off of the right side suspension and mudflap. The dipstick shows about 2/3 of the oil is missing, the engine did not oveheat, and the "check oil"light did not come on.
I called the dealership, the manager and the service manager were VERY apologetic, and they dispatched a local flatbed to bring me a loaner and pick up our car. The fact that it took 3.5 hours for the flatbed to show up is another sob-story......
ANYWAYS: I'm PISSED.
The service manager asked if they could keep the car for a few days so they could fully/properly clean the engine/engine compartment, change the oil (again), and check for any related issues, which is reasonable. We have their free loaner in the meantime.....
I'm a bit worried about the rubber components and wire harnesses which got covered with oil. I'll probably discuss this with them, and as long as they guarantee these parts ........
If things "go right" The Dealership name will remain private. But, if things don't "go right", this forum will get more specifics, as will Nissan.
More to follow (in a few days), either way it goes.........
