Simple Question.

Why?

I have a B120 pickup (in Australia we call them a 'Ute' - short for utility). It came with a 1200 motor and very basic extras.
I have installed a CA18DE with Auto transmission, I have also installed pretty much the ENTIRE silvia (S13) wiring loom, Auto ECU, CA18 ECU, everything from the frnot seats forwards except ABS, radio and heater.

I have had Cruise control in my cars for the last 12 years
i have searched this and many other forums to no avail
i have trailed through the FSM for the 240SX and am happy to go and get the parts from one EXECPT there is one wire that goes to the Auto ECU Pin #40... from the ASCD ECU Pin #14 (yellow)... the only reference I found was in the Auto where it is described as the ASCD OD Cut out signal ...
where would this go into an AT ECU for the CA18 transmission?

Short answer, No.

I have cruise control on my CA18DET installed into an S14 240sx (Silvia over there). I have a manual transmission though, so I think the process was a bit more simple for me.

For the actual engine connections, I had to fabricate a bracket for the extra cable for the cruise and add another cable receiver to the throttle body. Honestly it was a pain.

If I were you, I would buy an aftermarket cruise control system. I've used the Rostra brand on 2 of my other vehicles I've had in the past and they worked really well. Depending on the setup, the cable install can be a bit of a pain, but other than that, the rest is simple wiring.

AFAIK, cruise control was a US only "after-thought" feature... nissan added additional parts and simple electronics for the cruise control, which is why you can easily connect it to any ECU for the most part :)

I'd hazard a guess and say you could wire it to the same place that the OD switch on the shifter goes to.

then again i'm just guessing.

i'm interested in how this install goes. keep us posted. i'm over in australia too and would love to see cruise control on my 180sx

where are you doing about the steering wheel switches?

Honestly i would have to say save your time and money for something else. I love feeling one with my car and cruise control takes away from the i feel at one with my car lol. Thats just my opinion

Trying to retrofit Nissan cruise is going to be a huge pain. I would seriously consider aftermarket. the primary reason is that due to the location of the control buttons being on the steering wheel, you're going to have to get the "rings" that allow the wheel to turn and have an electrical connection. They're model specific and I would seriously doubt you can transfer it to another steering column.

I'm pretty sure you can just use some other buttons and locate them on the dashboard... personally, I'd still go with the nissan parts because they're high quality.... I've seen how crappy the aftermarket ones are

Have you seen a Rostra? I looks OEM. They either use, or provide for GM, the old "on the blinker stalk" style controllers. I wouldn't be surprised if Rostra made all of GM's cruise control units in the 80's and 90's.

Well I went to the USA last month and got a steering wheel out of a sentra at 'pick n pull' in San jose, it has the rings and the controls on it. I then attempted to get the rest of the gear and found it would cost me way too much so I just brought the wheel itself home. i am going to attempt at some stage to put cruise control in, but not yet.

My 1200 Ute has the whole loom out of the S13 from the cluster to the wiper motor, from the fuel pump in the R31 petrol tank to the indicators - not a job for the faint of heart
It also has the S13 Auto transmission behind the CA18DE motor.

I figure that I can get most of the bits I need here in Australia now that I know what I am looking for.

My only question is about where it hooks up to the speed sensor and ECU's

Was the loom from an S13 that had cruise control? Do you have a copy of the American Factory Service Manual? It's got everything about the cruise control system in there.

the loom did not have a cruise control and i have multiple copies of the FSM, none of which have a CA18 AND Criuse in the same document

this is the reason for the question

All you REALLY need is the FSM info on cruise. If you have the control module, switches, vacuum pump and control solenoid assembly, throttle body and the throttle actuator, you could wire it all custom. You wouldn't be able to put the controls on the steering wheel though, they would have to be mounted elsewhere.

As has been stated, it's a pretty simple system, most of the wiring is from the control module to the switches and vacuum pump and control solenoid assembly. Everything else is power and ground.
