I have a deck and 4 speakers on the way for my 89 coupe, I've bought the deck mounting kit, wiring harness, and theantenna adapter...

The thing with my car is, whoever first bought it, got NO options with the car. No power options, no AC, no cruise, no ABS nothing.

It has a tape deck but I'm wondering, was there a low end sound system that came with the car that didn't have the amps in the doors for the speakers?

Thanks,

lbrowne

No. There are no amps because the amp is in the tape player(crap). So you should just swap the speakers and the in-dash and lite it up. By the way you shouldn't need a kit for the S13 there tape player is the same size as an aftermarket cd player. Tell me if there is a gap that really needs to be filled.

Wow I have never seen a 240 with that in it. But. You still don't need a kit. All you need is an equalizer or what most people use is a pocket. The the cd player just slides. Don't use a kit use a pocket.

you're f@ckin kidding me, I wish I had to check that sooner. :)

Although I had the mounting kit before I had the deck, because I wanted to be prepared once it arrived. How does it saty secured in there? I can't just let it slide in and stay there....

Wouldn't all the tape decks in the old 240s' be the same? I wouldn't think you could get a cd player in an 89....

Word of advise, use a screw in kit if you can, take car thieves about 10 seconds to pull a deck using a slide in braket, if its screw in they will at least have to remove the outer trim and then unscrew 4 screws...

i was going to say, theres no way i can slide that deck in and it jsut stay there, theres no rails or little lips to hold it in place

i have a kit with plastic clips and the like, but it has a setup where you put in a plastic braket type thing.

Ok when you take off the plastic cover that goes around the ac unit radio and stick shift you should see four screws that holds the "cage". There are two screws on the top and two screws on the bottom. The the cage and big tape play will slike out. There should be four screws on each side that hold the tape player in the cage. Unscrew and remove tape player. Then take the pocket and put it on the bottom. Screw the two screws on each side in. The put cd player in the top. Screw the two screws on each side. Now the cd player is in the cage. Put it back in and your done. Except the wiring of course. If this is not what you have im gonna need some pics with the tap player out and the plastic cover off.

I feel so dumb for not noticing that. I assumed the tape deck/radio was all one unit.

Well, I got my wiring harness and stuff all tapped, and come tomorrow night it'll be in the car. (its -35 celcius out there now, i ain't goin out there :) )

Thanks for pointing this shortcut out, it made the install 50 times easier. I was really dreadin dealin with that plastic mounting kit.

Not a problem any time. Are you going to get a pocket to go under the head unit?

right now i just took the tape deck out and thats where the new cd deck will be. with the old radio still in place. i was almost stripping the screws trying to take out the radio, but the tape deck ones came out no prob.

where my car looks like a POS (body isn't in good shape) for someone to glance in where i don't have tinted windows, it will look like she has just a radio (when the face plate is off the new deck), suiting to the shape the car is in.

so for now, no pocket, but where can i get these other than online? I wonder would Crappy Tire have them....

Your asking where could you get the pocket. You should be able to call a local car audio place and get it. The pocket won't be that much at all. Or you could just run to a junk yard and get it. They are usually in good shape at junk yards.

welp it does work, the volume button is a little sensitive (you get loud garble noise through the speakers when you adjust it) but that is very easily fixed with a spray that i had to use on an old b/w tv.

but like, i'm not sure what its worth to you, the little digital screen was working but it never came on when i was going to take it out. stereo was still playing though.

although, chances are with the FRIGID temperatures here, it was too cold for it to display.

its still in the car because the screws were a bit testy so i just took out the tape deck instead.
