--Does anyone recommend this:

Follow these steps to enter into the diagnostic mode.

- Start Engine [required if you want to see all available diagnostic options]
- Turn OFF the Audio system
- While pushing the SETTING button, rotate the radio's VOLUME control either clockwise or counter-clockwise 30+ clicks.
- You will then be put into the diagnostic mode.
- Use the BACK button to get to previous screens.

NOTE:
Holding down the SETTING button and rotating the volume knob a 2nd time will put the diagnostic mode into a more "detailed" state offering more options.--

How do I diagnose a cd/radio malfunction ? :werd:

Diag mode won't diag specifics like that it mainly tells you if comm is okay between the main unit and the bcm. It's cool to go in there and play around. I used to enable it while driving and use my rear camera. Kinda funky.

does anyone know how to turn back the volume speed sensitivity? for instance the faster you go, the louder your radio gets.

It's not speed related volume it's called audio pilot and has to do with drowning out cabin noise. The louder it is inside the cabin the mic mounted to your steering column tells the amp to add bass to try and cancel out the noise. Similar technology with the Bose noise cancelling headphones.

I used the diagnostic mode to adjust my rear-view camera angle. It will also diagnose or at least confirm other things are connected and working properly. When I play about in there I am VERY careful NOT to choose any option that could mess up settings on things that I know are already working fine.

Yes, it's called audio pilot, no, it's not similar to noise-cancelling headphones (at least not in all model years). Noise cancelling headphones generate soundwaves opposite the noise so you won't hear the noise because the noise waves and generated waves cancel each other out. I was in a 2005 Audi RL that did this, and it was amazing. The 2006 M definitely did not do that (it just gets louder to drown out the noise), and definitely did call it audio-pilot, so I would at least hope they would use a new name if they did do that in later models. I won't argue as to whether it uses speed or th emicrophone for in-cabin noise levelse, because I don't remember off hand, but I wouldn't be surprised if the manual specifically said it uses speed, and if only the tech package has the microphone/bluetooth capabilities, then that would make it even more likely to use speed, because the base models probably have the option too.

ETA: And the reason I actually started this post... For the user who asked: the audio-pilot option is in the general settings you access with the settings button on the dash, not the "special/secret" diagnostic mode.
