Supposedly there is a sequence to turn the key in the ignition to bring up a sort of morse code that tells me whats wrong with the car. Does that work on early Q45s? or how would i go about finding other problems

Fully explained in the FSM that came with every new Q45 [even in 1989].

You must remove [reposition] ECU and turn a switch and count blinking led flashes on ecu.

Normally easier to plug in your Consult I, II, or III diagnostic computer found at every Nissan dealership or Nissan independent specialty shop.

The '94 FSM will tell you how to pull the codes and helps with a lot of things. It'll get you by until you can find the paper FSM for your model year on eBay.
