Duaine,

Were you the one, who has the ACPT carbon fibre driveshaft?

I would like to do this mod, and am trying to get some good info, from the one Q45 owner, who has had it done..

dgoodno....where have you been. Good to hear from you. See my post I think on page #2 about the driveshaft. It looks really promising. I am seriously considering it along with one other. Cost will be about $1000 but it will reduce weight and also increase the efficiency of power transfer to the rear wheels.....I sent you and email through the forum...did you every get it. I thought that it was you that got the driveshaft. It will probably be in May or early June at the latest that I buy my driveshaft. This company are the ones that built a driveshaft for AGM's car...I think.

I am almost totally lost on all these buys. At this point I want in on everything except the SC. I was stalling as Tony, my mechanic, was to have gotten on and finalized some of these.

Oh, I made a maddening trip to San Francisco and Washington DC. Had a meeting, saw family and picked up some car pictures, although I didn't find all I needed.

I'm now back in Afghanistan, but with two guests that are keeping me busy 24/7, plus I moved with them into a new building that does not have internet yet.

So I've been quiet. Not even time to read all the threads.

sorry to hear tha tyour back overseas. I will send you an email with all the mods and group buys with time frames that should be occuring over the next 2 or 3 months. many of the group buy sellers are cool with us not having everybody buy at the same time, but within a 2 month time window as they know we are a small group that is doing the mods and not everybody can afford or needs the mods at the same time....like my brakes. My current front brakes are about shot so instead of putting on OEM I am updgrading....and maybe in 2 months you will need new brakes as well and will do the upgrade...sounds like you had a good time in the states...

I will try doing another search again and look for who has it, but I searched over 1 hour last time and I could not find out who it was....I know that somebody does have it and it was posted since me joining NICO at the beginning of February...

It's driving me crazy, too, I didn't spend an hour searching, but just don't have the right keyword. It was just a couple of months ago. If you call ACPT, they might give you the name of whom they made it for.

I swear it was like AGM, or Chally, or obviously someone who's not here everyday.

thanks for confirming my senses Heavy that it was only a couple of months ago that somebody mentioned having this done. I will do another search definitely to see what I come up with....All I can remember that there was a huge weight savings and the cost was similar to an OEM replacement

We must find out who it is!!

I really really want this...

I would like to confirm the driveability on the Q45, before i take the plunge

So far, I've spoken to multiple people with sporty imports (3kgt/supra/etc) and it's nothing but love.

Just would like to get a confirmation on the kick butt'ness of the G50 app, and I'm sold..

It was sold to someone in Texas 02/03, per Peter @ ACPT. Cost was $1095. Peter is trying to contact the buyer & have him contact me, or if he knows of NICO, to please log on & post.

thanks heavy for doing the research....you saved me another hour of post searching. Not that I don't mind it...as I learn a lot from it as I always get side tracked and end up learing about some other part versus the part I am searching for.

I guess you guys were looking for me.

I get home today and there's a message on my machine from a gentleman named Peter. He mentions NICO and the driveshaft that ACPT built for me last year.

Well, I always thought that there were other people on this board who had a Carbon Fiber Driveshaft.

Anyway, I will give you some details.

I paid around $1100 for the CF shaft from ACPT. It took them around 3 weeks to make it. I had to send them my OEM shaft, which they sent back with the new one.

My first impression was of how light it was in comparison to the factory shaft. My guess is that the CF Drive Shaft weighs in at around 14 lbs. If I remember correctly, the factory setup is over 40 lbs.

The quality of construction is very good on the ACPT unit. The ends are aluminum with Spicer greasable U-joints. They use a new tranmission yoke which fits the RE4R03A.

On the differential side, they provide an adapter that mounts to the diff. flange.

When I installed the shaft, I measured runout at the back just before the adapter. I got a best measurement of .002".

The only drawback to the ACPT shaft is that you no longer have a flex-joint like on the factory so there is an increase in harshness. But to me it is acceptable.

I would recommend the ACPT shaft for anyone looking to increase performance at a reasonable price.

I say reasonable because it is only a few hundred dollars more than an OEM shaft. In my case, the factory shaft had begun to fail at the flex joint. Plus, I wanted a shaft that could handle the planned power increases for the car.

Sij,

Thanks very much for the Info!!

Can you discuss a little more the increase in performance...

Did it make a noticeable increase when it came to faster revs?

Were they any performance gains achived, besides the lighter weight?

Thanks for the info and you are a hard person to find. I have been trying to find out who it was for the past 2 weeks that had this mod.

Can you tell me more about the "increase in harshness"???? Is the harsness only felt under WOT what you are referring to?

What year is your Q?....just want to check to see if there are any differences in driveshafts or mounting patterns between years.

What are your planned power increases??? I would like to know as I have several things (LevelTen transmission, 4.08, ECU, etc.) all lined up waiting to be installed.

There is a noticeable increase in performance with the Carbon Fiber Driveshaft.

Originally, I had some lightweight Enkei 16x7 wheels with Continental tires. The wheel with tire weighed ~ 40lbs.

When I installed the CF driveshaft, I put on some new wheels and tires (17x8 with Kumho Ecsta 255/45) which weighed in at over 52 lbs each.

I thought that the heavier wheel/tire package would negate any gains from the CF driveshaft. But that wasn't the case.

The car was noticeably quicker. I can only imagine what the performance improvement might be if I had stayed with the lightweight tire and wheel package.

Regarding my comment about harshness: The factory driveshaft has a flex coupling near the transmission yoke that is designed to cushion any driveline shock. With the CF shaft, there is no flex disc, so you have a firmer shift .

My car is 94 Q45 with the LevelTen trans(1st & 2nd gears from the 90-93), Pro-Torque converter(~2500 rpm stall) and 4.08 gears.

I can't believe it....somebody already has my mods. :D This is excellent to know as you have relieved me of my biggest concern...hooking up a 90-93 transmission to a 94-96 car. My new 1992 LevelTen transmission with a 2400 stall will be installed into my 95 car within the next two weeks. I am getting my 4.08 installed tomorrow morning.

Well it certainly sounds like I will be getting a new driveshaft in the future....and thanks for your explanation on the harshness.

Are you considering a JWT ECU....just curious since you have so much else already done. I am waiting for my JWT ECU to arrive any week now.

You must really burn those tires up from a stop with all that you have done. I am going to 18" wheels with 275/40/18 rears to try and get a little more grip off the line.

Hmmmm.... Wonder if anyone would be interested in my 4-month-old OEM driveshaft?

I also wonder what the wholesale price is, since I am eligible for that....(having a business license, reseller's permit and such)...

Hmmmmm....... :icesangel

I guess there is about to be 3 driveshafts for sale on ebay. I think the last one went for around $125 or so but it was heavily used. Mine is only 20K old....At least I will get a little something back.
