Detonation (maybe) at 6000-7000 RPM (S1 RB25)

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

it sounds like detonation or sparkes arcing out of the coil pack at high RPM. anyone have any ideas?

im using BP 93 octane.timing at 15 BTDC

its a well known problem with the RB packs. they get so hot under that cover after years of use the casing cracks and they arc like mad.

ive heard theres a fix involving a plastic glue cement resin thing but i dont know any details, sorry.

ok thats what i thought it was. i dont run the cover so they are getting as cool as they are going to get.

i'm going to try the electrical tape fix.

Let us know how it goes. I have the same issue and I was looking into the spitfire coils, I've read that silicon will work as well.

How much boost are you running? After upgrading turbo and turning boost up to 18-19psi, I was getting bad detonation.

I had to retard timing a few degrees at WOT.

Disregard if you're running stock turbo at 12psi. Detonation is probably not it unless you don't have enough fuel.

he isnt detonating, its misfiring. his coil casings are cracked.

yea its strange, there is no loss of power, no missfire, but it sounds like a loud crackeling.

stock turbo. .8 bar max.
