I did aa search and found my answer IF I had a '91+...

But on and '89-90 there doesn't appear to be a knock sensor. So I was putting my CA in last night and found the lower (Engine Harness #2 in FSM) harness wouldn't work. So I was going to use my lower harness from my front clip since it has the right connectors for the transmission and such. However, where the lower harness plugs into the main harness there is 4 plugs. 3 of them are just like the US. But the 4th one, the one under the fuse box, is different. The US harness has 4 wires, and the JDM one is 2 wires (black and white) for the knock sensor.

So where does the knock sensor get wired in on the '89-90 harness?? And what does the 4 wire plug get signal from on the US harness?? This last question I am sure would be answered with the right FSM, but unfortunately, the FSM I have is for a '91+. So does anyone know where I can get a '89-90 FSM online? At least the Electrical chapter? Did the '89-90 even have a knock sensor? I don't remember unplugging one. Was I right in using the JDM lower harness? The transmission plugs appear to be different and it has the knock sensor wire on it.

Thanks for the help guys. Hoping to have this running this weekend. Engine is in, now it is just down to plumbing and electrical.

89-90 KA does NOT have a knock sensor.

There will be and extra plug left over from the lower harness but its nothing important, im guessing it was for the 4th and 5th gear sensors that the KA transmission has.

The knock sensor wire and plug is on the main engine harness. The other half of the plug should still be on your CA block, under the intake manifold.

You can use you KA lower harness but switch out the reverse and neutral sensors since the plugs are diffrent.

I used the CA lower harness, left out that extra plug and wired the knock sensor directly into the CA engine harness. There is a thread on how to do it somewhere....

i wired it in directly. it works fine. i just ran a lengthy bit of wire from the main harness to it (just dont know if it had the plug jimmied on the end or not, either way its pretty simple).

OK, cool. I think I found the thread telling which wires to use. Super simple it seems. Unfortunately I forgot to reroute those vacuum lines for the secondary butterflies and FPR before I put the engine in. Woohoo, go me... Hopefully I can get to them anyway.

I removed the A/C and power steering since those were both heavy power robbing things and I have never been impressed with the S13's power steering at autocrosses. Seems to cavitate a lot. So I am just down to wiring and vacuum lines. Getting pretty stoked for this thing to be running. Only drove this car for 3 days before pulling it apart.

I'm curious as to the effects of this, and/or how you accomplished this. The system was not designed as a dry system, so did you simply loop a hose from the inlet to the outlet and leave only enough fluid in for the system to work? You think you'll ever need to change the fluid if that is indeed what you did? How much more difficult is the steering.

My roomate filled his rack then plugged the holes on his EP hachi and I loved the feel of it. I ran without power steering (pulley broke) for a while on my hachi and it was nice so I ended up just plugging it like my roommate's. It hasn't been running (the engine is still waiting on a few parts) since then though, so I can't say if there was any problems or not. On the S13 I am going to fill it with fluid and loop the fittings. I have heard you can build up pressure in the rack if you don't loop them. But I have never heard from people I know that there was any problems capping them. And I know a few people that have.

Well, I can't seem to find it now. I printed it out at work though, so I can let you know tomorrow if nobody else beats me to it..
