I took off my auto driveshaft for the manual swap and the back (longer peice) of the driveshaft has some detint in it. Is that normal for it to detint like that? Btw, I'm talking about where the driveshaft mounts to the diff. at the joint.

Detint means like when you turn a knob for volume and you turn in and it catches just alittle but you can still turn it freely but if you turn it slowly in sorta stops of something. Make sence?

Well yea, but the driveshaft is on the ground. Thats where the problem is. At the driveshaft, the rear peice. You know where you have the 4 bolts that connect the driveshaft and diff.?

Thats where the detint is.

Yes, thats what its made to do.

I spelled detent with i not a e. So its should be detent.

The meaning of detent is "A mechanism that temporarily keeps one part in a certain position relative to another, and can be released by applying force to one of the parts."

So in other words whats happening is the peice that in circled (where you see the two hole...that piece) move put when you move it like its made to do there is a mechanism that sorta locks it. But if you keep on applying just a little force it moves? Does this make sence? Is that detent normally there?

to my knowlegde that looks correct unless its doing something weird. compare both shafts, they should both be the same at that end and if they are not you need to use the back half of your auto shaft w/ the front half of your manual shaft.

Thats not the problem. The problem is the detent when you move it back and forth. I dont have the manual dirveshaft yet. But the front doesn't have any detent but the back does.

yeah the front part has no play in it, its a shaft that goes straight to a spline drive thats normal, and the back looked like that on mine. that seems normal to me.

Ok I'll take your word for it. No offence but I still dont think you understand where the problem is.

you are probably right, i don't think i understand completely.... but that looks just like mine did, is there something that seems to be wrong or different about the rear of the driveshaft that brings up this question??

Well first you cant see the problem. You can only feel it when you move the joint. When you move the joint (I think they call in yoke) back and forth in locks. Not lock as in cant move it, I just mean a catchs and not as smooth going back and forth. Make sence?

What this is from is the drive shaft is mostly sitting in 1 spot on the U joint duiring normal driving creating a higher wear point on the run. This will feel like a notch its the start of a u joint going out. Mine had that when i pulled it out. I know this is a old thread but its a common occuarnce from what i can understand.

Yea I figured it was normal and it would make sense why it would have some detint, that way it has lock so the U-joint doesn't ware out so fast. Thanks for the info though. Your in Whichita, maybe we could have a Whichita meet sometime. I'm like 3 hours north of Whichita but I'd love to have a meet sometime.
