I'm about to get a 97 240sx here in canada. And i'm just wonder what do i need to do a swap. RB26DET or SR20DET front clip, and how about the transmission? I very new to this scene so any help would be appericated. Plus does anyone have an estimate on the price plus the installation work for both these engine?thanks in advnace

well you should probably drop the idea of a rb26...unless you have some serious cash...@6000us just for the clip and a lot of modding to make it fit, obviously you are new this seems to be everyones first question....Everything you need comes in a front clip....transmission,I/C,Ecu,...blah blah blahif you want info on the swaps, most of it is pretty vague, because people dont really want to let the cat out of the bag, It can be found using the almighty search button and yahoo or google...

also you might want to consider the RB20DET, or the RB25DETand you're gonna want to stay away from the s-15 SR20(once again alot of modding to make it work) and its expensive

once you really start looking you're gonna get a headache with all the possible setups and what power what makes.....and this thread is probably gonna turn into another which engine is better thread.

I've seen plenty of places with RB26 clips for under 5k. Fitting it in a 240sx is where the money and hassle begins. Two turbos, too small of a bay. I'm not sure what causes clearance issues, but people do the RB26DETT swap, it cant be that hard. (twin turbo's i have seen in a 240)

RB26DETT is the big papa of expensive swaps for the 240sx, but its still realistic.

Ii own a vw GTi 1.8T. I was thinking about the RB25DET not the 26 sorry for the confusion. So you think 10k CAN would be info to get a RB25det working properly? I know for a fact that RB26 would be a too much. thanks for the help guys

well I dont know what that is in US but hope this'll help.(all approx)3500us for clipneed custom driveshaft 400-500fuel pump upgd 150(dont need but proper precaution to take)and depending on where you go for the work:@2000(maybe more if they charge per hour)so you're looking at at least 6k U.S. or you could do the work yourself get that accomplished feeling and spend the extra couple g's on an fmic and boost controller.

you can also buy an RB install kit from:http://www. heavythrottle.comwhere they wire up your harness, give you motor mounts so you dont have to cut the hood, a new intake manifold, and some other stuff to make the install a little less painless.

http://www.mckinneymotorsports.com also has one w/ a custom driveshaft( I know they were working on one dunno if its finished)

the rb26 was offered as awd, so thats where all the fun comes into play, unless ur 240 is awd....now that would bne tight

so 6k roughly translate to 9k Can. Plus the tax that would be something like 10.5k i guess. That's what i'm looking at too. I'm going for the RB25 because i want to get around 400 whp later on. I know for a fact that sr20 is a cheaper way but if i were to spend 6000 to do a swap to get 200 whp then i might as well get a turbo kit for the KA engine. You think i'm going at the right direction? I have 33000 from the golf i am selling ( with all the mods).
