Hey guys, I'm looking into getting a detachable hub steering wheel for my 96' 240. What brands are out there and which one makes the best product? Also, do I have to get an aftermarket wheel to use a detachable hub? Thanks guy!

yes you have to get aftermarket stuff

you need an aftermarket wheel and hub to go with the quick release.

are those hubs just universal for sparco and momo wheels? i'm doing this mainly as a security reasons. what do you guys think about the http://www.tekniqauto.com/ kit? it locks with a key, is street legal, and no two hubs are the same so it will only work on your car.

Those quickreleases look like they have a poor locking mechanism. Go with a quality one. check out http://www.pandagarage.com/quick_release.htm they have specials going on right now for 2 types of quickreleases.

the L2 will work with sparco/momo hubs, the NRG only works with one or the other, I think Sparco.

does the L2 or the NRG have any kind of key or anti-theft device? I don't want a hub that anyone can slip they're sparco, momo, or whatever kind of steering wheel they have, theives around here are smart

the woodbell rapfix has a lock for it, but it costs more. I heard that there is a company making one for the L2/NRG, but I have yet to see that come to fruition.

What's wrong with it? To me, it looks like it has a spine that fits into the hub, and then the bolts lock it in place. With any of these I would just be concerned that the steering wheel might have some "play"

i also have the tekniq on my 240. I used a Work steering wheel with the help of the adapters that came with it. No play on the steering wheel.

if this is done in an effort to be theft deterrent, try lo jack, cost about twice as much as what you'd invest in removable steering wheel setup

I just watched the vid of it, just looked like it had a lot of "wobble" after locked. Looks as if they are decent if these other people are giving them good reviews though, go for it.

I noticed that as well, at first that kind of steered me away from it, but with all the good reviews people are giving it, I think I'm gonna go ahead and pick up one....now the question is, which steering wheel to get?

if youre in the Los Angeles area, hit up Super Autobacs and get the FET quick release. This a real made in Japan piece (not china/taiwan) thats cheaper than most others.

I got my NRG quick release and momo hub for 130 shipped from srtmotorsports.com. They ran a special a while back and I missed out. They still gave me the same deal with no shipping.

actuallyif i were a car thief. id be more than likely to jack a car with a quick release steering wheel. chances are there would goodies in there. its easy to drive off without a steering wheel anyway. vise grips =)

if you want security just wire a bunch of kill switches

if youre going for looks then get the quick release to impress your buddys

actually you can remove most detachable hub bases with allen screws and attach your own wheel.also most detachable hubs are interchangable within the same brand. so if the theif has the same detachable hub, he can attach is wheel.the FET hub is tough to use vice grips since there isnt much for a vice to grip.

I'm rocking a Nardi Classic and one of those ball bearing type quick releases from pandagarage.com, awsome, I would recommend it to anyone looking into a quick release.
